Dixie Makes His Cup Runneth Over

D.F. Oliveria The Spokesman-Revi

So, anyone who opposes Enough Is Enough on constitutional grounds is an “idiot”? Then, I’m an idiot. (Shaddup!) On Tuesday, Councilmaniacs Dixie Reid and Chris Copsted called Spokane’s Mike Wolther an “idiot” for challenging the anti-drug program, which, in part, asks businesses to push hard to drug-test employees. (So much for informed debate at our council meetings.) I raised the same Fourth Amendment objections during a private meeting with Dixie earlier this year. But wasn’t called an idiot. Rather, she said she was tired of people fretting about rights while kids go to pot. Drugs are a curse. But city officials who are quick to trample personal freedoms may be worse.

Blood? Guts? Keep ‘em coming, film at 11

Which is worse: CNN issuing a press release to say Bill Clinton’s War against Yugoslavia has jacked up ratings? Or ABC News bragging that “20/20 Wednesday” scored a rating bonanza with its report on the Columbine High School massacre? Vultures. … Will someone tell my wife that researchers now say an egg a day is okay? I miss my cholesterol fix … For those keeping score at home, Congressman Helen Chenoweth says she’d double her self-imposed term limit from six to 12 years, if she knew then what she knows now. But she’s going to keep her term-limits promise anyway … I experience jealousy, not road rage, when I’m detained in traffic for road construction on Spokane’s side of I-90. I hardly can wait for work to begin this summer on the awful freeway ruts on our side.

Sweet Potatoes: Wallace, ISP, District Court

Sweet Potatoes … to Coeur d’Alene Councilwoman Nancy Sue Wallace for leading the charge to find funding for public art. (May her efforts prove fruitful.) … to the 1st District Court for planning to ask jurors to donate their $10 daily stipend to help other members of the peanut gallery with day-care needs … to Idaho State Police officers for their plans to remember fallen trooper Linda Huff by wearing shirts with her name and badge number as they carry the Special Olympics Torch in June … to the 51.9 percent of Wallace School District patrons who thought their children’s education was important enough to pass a $1.1 million supplemental levy.
