Benewah County Plummer
The sixth annual Plummer City Wide Yard Sale will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 12. A $5 fee will pay for printing a map of the sale and advertising. Thirty-nine yards were included on last year’s map. To be included, call Arlene Huggins at (208) 686-1403 before May 28.
Bonner County Sandpoint
Kindergarten and new student registration for Bonner County School District will be 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 5 at the Panhandle Health District Office. A certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and Social Security number are needed at registration. Panhandle Health District also will hold a clinic May 5 for children who have not completed their immunizations. Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years of age on or before Sept. 1, 1999. First-grade students must be 6 on or before Sept. 1.
Boundary County Bonners Ferry
The Second Chance Animal Adoption volunteers are looking for foster families to temporarily take in puppies and adult dogs with special needs until permanent homes are found. Dog food and vet care are provided. For more information, call Alice Miller at (208) 267-2023.
Kootenai County Post Falls
A task force is being formed to represent the public in the Environmental Protection Agency’s Superfund Study of the Coeur d’Alene Basin. The committee will be formed at a May 5 meeting at Cavanaughs Templin’s Resort. Residents of Idaho and Washington will be on the committee with members of the existing Coeur d’Alene Basin Citizen Advisory Committee. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Latah County Moscow
Travel spending in 1997 generated $41.2 million in Latah County, according to a study commissioned by the Idaho Department of Commerce. The travel-related payroll for Latah was $6.6 million, with 660 people employed in travelgenerated occupations. Latah County had the 12th highest travel spending of Idaho’s 44 counties. The figures were complied by Dean Runyan Associates of Portland.
Shoshone County Wallace
The annual Wallace citywide cleanup will be May 1-16. Residents are asked to clean yards, vacant lots and along curbs. City crews will pick up curb sweepings and other debris piles. Dumpsters have been donated for convenient drop-offs; they’ll be located at the West Wallace Interchange. One Dumpster will be for wood and the other for metal. A burn pile will no longer be allowed. WASHINGTON
Pend Oreille County Newport
The Pend Oreille PUD is beefing up customer service. Utility customers in the northern reaches of the county can now dial a local number for the service center. Before, an 800 number was used. Communication between Box Canyon and Newport offices has improved dramatically since the PUD began using fiber optics. The new north county number is (509) 446-3137.
Spokane County Cheney
The Cheney chapters of Beta Sigma Phi International are sponsoring a $600 scholarship for Cheney and Medical Lake high school seniors. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and must begin a two- or four-year college in the fall. Applications are available at local high schools, and the deadline is Friday.
Whitman County Pullman
Merchants and businesses are being asked to report suspicious currency to the Pullman police after several counterfeit $20 bills were passed. Three bogus bills were passed sometime between April 15 and April 18 at a Pullman convenience store. On April 22, four counterfeit bills were deposited at the Washington State Employees Credit Union, CUB branch.

Lincoln County Libby
The annual meeting for the Lincoln County Combined Campaign will be 7 p.m. May 6 at Libby Middle School. Charitable groups or nonprofit organizations wanting to be considered for membership must submit a letter by May 1 to LCCC, P.O. Box 1138, Libby, Mont., 59923. The campaign combines resources for one annual effort, rather than various agencies conducting individual fund-raisers. Member agencies pledge not to conduct separate fund-raising efforts.
