Apartment Building Destroyed By Blaze

An apartment was destroyed by fire late Thursday.

When Coeur d’Alene firefighters responded to the blaze at 1320 N. First at 9:39 p.m., flames were shooting from the east end of the two-story building.

Units from Kootenai County Fire Protection District No. 1 and Hayden Lake Fire Protection District joined the fight and confined the fire to the room it started in.

The remaining three apartments sustained only minor smoke and water damage.

One resident and two firefighters were injured during the fire. The resident was taken to Kootenai Medical Center and treated for smoke inhalation. The firefighters were treated at the scene.

Damage to the building is estimated at $30,000. The fire is under investigation by the Coeur d’Alene fire and police departments.
