Benewah county Plummer

The wellness fair ‘99 will be Sept. 16 at the Coeur d’Alene Tribal Wellness Center in Plummer. The fair runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Individuals and organizations wishing to have a booth or display area focusing on health and wellness issues can obtain forms from the Community Health office in the Wellness Center. Bonner County Sandpoint

The Bonner County Cooperative Extension System and the state Department of Agriculture have scheduled two recertification presentations for those holding pesticide applicator licenses. Each will give three hours credit toward recertification. The programs will be Sept. 9 at Bonner County Extension Office. The first at 9 a.m. is for pesticide sellers, nursery and professional applicators. The second program for homeowners and gardeners will begin at 1:30 p.m. Fee is $5 per class. Boundary County Bonners Ferry

The Bonners Ferry Seniors Hospitality Center operates 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The center serves meals Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at noon. Home delivered meals are available. The center also provides transportation of elderly persons to recreational activities and operates elderly and handicapped subsidized housing. For information, contact the center at (208) 267-5553.

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

Kootenai County Treasurer Jeannine Ashcraft recently attended the annual conference of the Idaho Association of County Treasurers. Ashcraft was elected president for the coming year. The group focuses on education and encouraging legislation and public support for efficiency in public office.

Latah County Moscow

The Moscow School Board Tuesday approved spending $200,000 in forestry and lottery funds for the Joseph Street playfield project. The approval will allow the district to add to the $100,000 in city funds that will be used to begin developing three fields. The project will include a baseball, softball and soccer field.

Shoshone County Osburn

The Osburn Business Association is seeking input from business owners on what the association can do for them in the upcoming year. The association will offer an open house 5-7 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Osburn Senior Center. Annual membership dues of $25 are due by Sept. 30.

Lincoln County Libby

Student orientation at the Lincoln County campus of Flathead Valley Community College will be Tuesday. Two orientation sessions will be held in Room 101 from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to8 p.m. Classes begin Wednesday.

Pend Oreille County Newport

Cheryl Burgess and Linda Sima are sharing their know-how with other women anticipating Y2K. These local women have co-written “A Women’s Practical Guide to Disaster Preparedness.” The book covers how to be ready for any kind of disaster, natural or man-made such as Y2K. The ladies wrote the book after discovering that women are more detail oriented. The book is on sale locally at Kiddie Cottage, Oldtown Pawn, and My Sisters ‘n Me.

Spokane County Cheney

Two Eastern Washington University students recently won first place in the 1999 EWU Homecoming Art Contest. Anne Hansen-Griel of Onalaska, Wash., and Stacey L. Reece of Twisp, Wash., will share a $250 prize for their project, which included photos from old issues of “Kinnikinick,” EWU’s yearbook.

Whitman County Colfax

The Whitman County commissioners will discuss several development and planning issues Monday morning, including the Locust Grove preliminary plat and the Pullman-Moscow corridor. The commissioners are likely to make a decision on the amendment to the comprehensive plan, which would allow new development along the eight-mile stretch. The commissioners’ regular meeting is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. The corridor issue is slated for 11:45 a.m.
