‘Our Environmental Destiny’ Lecture Presented By Rfk Jr. Wednesday At Ewu

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer and writer and the son of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, and will deliver a public lecture Wednesday evening at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

Kennedy is known as a committed environmentalist and has been the prosecuting attorney in cases against the government and companies for polluting the Hudson River and Long Island Sound.

As chief prosecuting attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defence Council, he has argued cases for expanding citizen access to the shorelines and has sued sewage treatment plants to force compliance with the Clean Water Act.

The lecture, titled “Our Environmental Destiny” begins at 7:30 p.m. at Showalter Auditorium on the EWU campus.

Kennedy, who is also a licensed master falconer, has written the New York State Apprentice Falconer’s Manual and “The Riverkeepers.”

He also contributes to the New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post.

The lecture is part of the EWU speaker series, Easter Dialogues: Opening Doors to the 21st Century.

The next speaker in the series is Winona LaDuke, an American Indian activist, MS. magazine’s 1997 Woman of the Year and Ralph Nader’s vice presidential candidate on the Green Party ticket in 1996. LaDuke will speak on April 7.
