Chase’S Bryan Wright Wins With Original Composition

Bryan Wright, an eighth-grade student at Chase Middle School, won a state competition sponsored by the American Music Teachers Association for his original composition, “Land of Prynn.”

His music of four movements now advances to the seven-state divisional level.

In addition, Wright received a perfect score during last spring’s Spokane Allied Arts Festival.

He began composing music at the age of 3.

Three area students have received scholarships from Central Washington University.

Casey Schneider, a Mead High School graduate, received a $1,000 scholarship from the anthropology department.

Seniors Ben Orth and Bart Orth, Nine Mile Falls, are sharing a scholarship, and received $500 each.

Ben Orth is a business education major; Bart Orth is majoring in biology education.

Army Second Lt. Tracy Wing graduated from the armor officer basic course at Fort Knox, Ky.

Wing, the son of Shayne and Shirley Wing, Spokane, is a 1991 graduate of West Valley High School and a 1998 graduate of Eastern Washington University.

Army National Guard Pfc. John Shaffer graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. He is the son of Sandra Shaffer, Spokane.

Army National Guard Pfc. Kenneth J. Sandri graduated from the heavy-wheeled vehicle mechanic course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of James Sandri, Spokane, and Martha Nelson, Rosalia,Wash.

Air Force Airmen Timothy Mollotte and Gustin Donnelly graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Mollotte, the son of Leo and Barbara Mollotte, Spokane, is a 1998 graduate of East Valley High School.

Donnelly, a 1998 graduate of West Valley High School, is the son of Laura Ferguson, Spokane.

Kimberly Ely, daughter of Bruce and Betty Ely, Spokane, graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in English.

She is a 1986 graduate of University High School.

John Leslie, a 1987 graduate of Mead High School and son of Nikki Hubbard, graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a degree in biology.
