Howard Hellinger Farmington, Wash.

Funeral for Howard Wayne Hellinger, 83, will be at 10 a.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Farmington.

Mr. Hellinger, who was born in Richland, died Saturday.

He attended grade school in Richland and Newport, Wash., and later attended high school in Garfield, Wash., settling in the Silver Creek area.

In 1944 he married Evelyn Curless, and they moved to a farm near Garfield and Farmington.

Mr. Hellinger was a farmer all his life and was also a heavy equipment operator for many years, helping to build roads at McCroskey State Park near Farmington.

He was a member of the Ladow Grange in Garfield.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles Hellinger of Garden Grove, Calif., and Gary Hellinger of Farmington; a daughter, Carol Cox of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Loretta Woodland Spokane

Funeral Mass for Loretta E. Woodland, 91, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Woodland, who was born in Idaho, died Friday.

She married Lester Woodland in 1927 and moved to Spokane in 1950, where she was the owner and operator of the Woodland Market for several years.

Mrs. Woodland was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and Altar Society, and the Isabella Society of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Her husband died in 1974.

Survivors include three sons, James and Jerry Woodland, both of Spokane, and Jack Woodland of Lewiston, Idaho; a sister, Eleanor Robson of Spokane; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Pearl (Glaspey) Kettleson Spokane

Funeral for Pearl Guyneithea (Glaspey) Kettleson, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will follow at Pullman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Kettleson, who was born in Pullman, died Saturday.

In 1927 she married Henry Kettleson and they made their home in Lacrosse, Wash., for four years before moving to Pullman.

Mrs. Kettleson was a homemaker and operated a day-care center in her home for the children of Washington State University students.

She moved to Spokane in 1967 and her husband died in 1970.

Survivors include a son, Donald Kettleson of Yakima; a daughter, Ellen Woolf of Lewiston; a sister, Zada Osbourne of Spokane; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Fay Estell Spokane

Graveside service for Fay Enid Estell, a longtime Spokane resident, is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Estell, who was born in Christen County, Mo., died Saturday. She was 93.

She married Wilbur Estell in 1923 and she worked at various dry cleaning establishments in Spokane for 40 years.

Her husband died in 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeannette Jepsen; a son, David Estell; a brother, Paul Sasser of Spokane; a sister, Jewel Martin of Denton, Texas; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Charles `Wes’ Tucker Spokane

Funeral for Charles W. “Wes” Tucker, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A 70-year Spokane resident, Mr. Tucker died Saturday. He was born in Saco, Mont.

Mr. Tucker served in the Navy during World War II and later worked as an estimator for Northwest Mono-Roof for 30 years.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435 and the Spokane Rifle and Muzzleloaders Club.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ilene; a daughter, Janet Burton of Spokane; a son, Charles Tucker of Seattle; a sister, Grace Libby of Greenacres; a brother Ivan Tucker of Noxon, Mont.; and four grandchildren.

Erma Lipps Spokane

Visitation for Erma C. Lipps, a longtime Spokane resident, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Pines Cemetery Mausoleum.

Miss Lipps, who was born in Spokane, died Friday. She was 77.

She retired from working for Phillips and Shell Petroleum after 40 years of service.

Survivors include two brothers, Cal Lipps of Spokane and Everett Lipps of Portland; and a sister, Dorothy Riese of Spokane.

Barbara Tester Spokane

Visitation for Barbara I. Tester, 83, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Congregational Church.

Mrs. Tester, who died Friday, was born in Spokane.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Westminster Congregational Church.

Her husband, Robert, died in 1962.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Colburn of Veradale; two sons, Chris Tester of Spokane and Dan Tester of Greenacres; two sisters, Phyllis Yockey of Spokane and Kay Mattson of Indiana; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Donald Smith Colfax, Wash.

Private burial for Donald F. Smith, 72, will be at the Riverside Memorial Park Mausoleum. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 40-year Colfax resident, Mr. Smith died Jan. 28. He was born in Potlatch, Idaho.

Mr. Smith worked as telephone technician for Pacific Northwest Bell for many years.

Survivors include a brother, Cecil Smith of Lewiston; and a sister, Bonnie Calhoun of Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

Eullainee (Tingley) Riley Spokane

Private family inurnment for Eullainee (Tingley) Riley, a longtime Spokane resident, will be held on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Riley, who was born on the Flathead Indian Reservation, died Thursday. She was 89.

She owned and operated a restaurant in Spokane for several years.

Survivors include two daughters, Anne Carl and Marlene Quackenbush; two sons, Thomas and Joseph Riley; two sisters, Daisy Tingley and Rose Taylor; a brother, Kenneth Tingley; six grandsons and 10 great-grandchildren.

Leonard Rees Spokane

Funeral for Leonard B. Rees, 84, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

A 51-year Spokane area resident, Mr. Rees died Friday. He was born in Sand Springs, Mont.

He graduated from Winnett (Mont.) High School and in 1937 moved to Oroville, Wash. He married Waneita Jones that same year.

Mr. Rees worked for contractor Harlan Douglass in Spokane for more than 30 years, before retiring in 1979.

He was a Boy Scout leader and served as chairman for the Old Time Fiddlers for many years. Mr. Rees was also involved with organizing the first three fiddler contests in Washington state.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Thomas Rees of Elk; two daughters, Betty Sanders of Spokane and Linda Davidson of Sheridan, Wyo.; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Margaret (Hachtel) Carpenter Potlatch, Idaho

Memorial service for Margaret May (Hachtel) Carpenter, 75, was Monday at Potlatch Community Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Carpenter, who was born in Ponca City, Okla., died Friday.

She married Fred Carpenter in 1942 and they moved to Oregon for a short time before moving to Puyallup, Wash.

In the early 1950s, Mrs. Carpenter moved near Ritzville, Wash., and then to Potlatch in 1955. She worked at the Tip-Top Restaurant in Moscow for several years while living in Potlatch.

In 1962 she and her husband moved to Seattle, where she worked as a cook at the restaurant in Kress’s Department Store downtown. She later began working as a cook at the University of Washington, retiring in 1982.

In 1990 Mrs. Carpenter moved to Othello, Wash. Her husband died in 1991 and she returned to Potlatch.

Survivors include a son, Ike Carpenter of Potlatch; a daughter, Peggy Paul of Seabeck, Wash.; two brothers, Charles and Larry Hatchel, both of Mountlake Terrace, Wash.; two sisters, June Waldschmidt of Shoreline, Wash., and Phyllis Olson of Camano Island, Wash.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Sonja Moseley Spokane

Private service for Sonja R. Moseley, 59, will be held at a later date. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A Spokane resident since 1974, Mrs. Moseley died Wednesday. She was born in Tuscola, Ill.

Mrs. Moseley was the office manager of a medical clinic.

She was active in the Girl Scouts and Campfire Girls in the 1960s and 1970s and was a volunteer at Lakeland Village and Catholic Charities in the 1980s.

Survivors include her children, Erin Miller-Osgood and Laurel CaitlinBrooke Miller, both of Spokane, Eric Miller of Tempe, Ariz., Cyndi Eck of Lewiston, Idaho, Kim McGuire of St. Joseph, Ill., and Christine Coburn of Matteson, Ill.; her mother, Ruth Moseley of Kankakee, Ill.; her father, Dave Sanderson of Teutopolis, Ill.; three sisters, Sandra Courson, Susan Nelson and Shirley Wingate, all of Illinois; two brothers, John Thomas of Florida and William Thomas of Illinois; and 11 grandchildren.

Donald Baldwin Sprague, Wash.

Memorial service for Donald A. Baldwin, 85, is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sprague Community Church. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Sprague-area resident, Mr. Baldwin died Friday.

In 1960 he married Eileen Hadley, and they farmed together in the Sprague area before retiring in 1988.

He was a member of the Crab Creek Grange 933 and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, James Baldwin of Juneau, Alaska, and Donald Baldwin of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sprague Fire Department or the Sprague Ambulance Fund.

Joseph Hentges Hawthorne, Nev.

Memorial service for Joseph John “Joe” Hentges, 58, was Monday at Gunter’s Funeral Home in Hawthorne.

Mr. Hentges, who was born in Chewelah, Wash., died Thursday.

He graduated from Chewelah High School in 1958 and started the Loon Lake Disposal Co. with his father.

In 1967 he married Ida Buche and began working in the mining industry.

Mr. Hentges moved to Hawthorne four years ago and began working as a mill operator for the Kinross Cold Co. in Candelaria, Nev. He was working there at the time of his death.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ron and Gary Hentges of Chewelah, and Tony Hentges of Winnemucca, Nev.; two daughters, JoAnn McCanna of Chewelah and Stacey Hentges of Wenatchee; two sisters, Mary Sherrodd of Spokane and Sue Ann Rader of Omak, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

Joyce Perry Spangle

Funeral for Joyce Beatrice Perry, 69, was Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.

Born in Sioux City, Iowa, Mrs. Perry died Friday.

She worked as a packaging manager for St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Co. in Seattle.

In 1979 she moved to Spangle where she farmed.

Survivors include three brothers, William, Gary and Laurence Harding.

Mavis Strong Spokane

No service will be held for Mavis E. Strong at her request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

A 60-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Strong, 85, died Thursday. She was born in Maddock, N.D.

Mrs. Strong worked as a janitor for Spokane School District 81.

Her husband, Percy, died in 1988.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Mildred (Greenough) Jensen Spokane

Private memorial service will be held for Mildred (Greenough) Jensen, a longtime Spokane resident. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jensen, who was born in Mullan, Idaho, died Friday. She was 98.

She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Spokane Junior League. Mrs. Jensen also volunteered with many community service organizations.

Her husband, Alvin, died in 1984.

Survivors include a son, Stanley Jensen of Spokane; a daughter, Shirley Woodward of Huntington Beach, Calif.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
