Men’s basketball
Saint Mary’s at Gonzaga
Time, site: 7 p.m., Martin Centre.
TV/Radio: TCI Cable channel 15/KTRW 970 AM.
Summary: It’s another sellout at The Kennel - and whatever pressure accompanied being a Top 25 team is now gone, so the Bulldogs (19-5, 9-1 WCC) can go about regaining the form which earned them that kind of attention in the first place. The Gaels (10-15, 3-7), now officially without 7-foot-3 center Brad Millard, pushed GU to the brink last Saturday at home, but the Zags did a solid job on WCC scoring leader Eric Schraeder (17 points, three under his average) and showed considerable poise down the stretch. The Zags’ normally deadeye shooting has fallen off somewhat - their percentage the last five games is just 43.8, though they are over 40 percent from 3-point range. But more of a concern to coach Dan Monson is rebounding (GU was thundered on the boards at San Diego last Thursday) and breakdowns defensively which showed at both stops on the last road trip.
New Mexico State at Idaho
Time: 7:05 p.m.
Radio: Delayed on KVNI 1080 AM.
Summary: If Idaho has East Division title ambitions, this is probably a must-win game. The Vandals (7-4) trail New Mexico State (8-2) and Boise State (8-2) with five games left. BSU visits UI to close the regular season on Feb. 28.
The Vandals had won eight of nine before an 80-73 road loss to the Aggies on Monday. The game was moved to Monday so Idaho could entertain Iona on ESPN last Thursday.
In conference games, NMSU forward Charles Gosa leads or shares the top spot in three categories - blocks (1.8), field-goal percentage (64.9) and rebounding (9.2).
Fans who purchase two general admission tickets for $8 will receive a coupon for a free pound of wings at Wingers restaurant in Moscow.
Women’s basketball
Oregon at Washington State
Time, site: 7 p.m., Friel Court
Summary: The Cougars have been slumping, dropping to 9-11 and 3-8 in the Pac-10 Conference. But they play five of their final seven games at home, where they have a 6-4 record. A win over Oregon (18-4, 9-2) would lead the highlight reel. The Ducks have won 13 of their last 15 games and are ranked 23rd in the AP Top 25 poll. Oregon is in second place in the standings behind No. 12 UCLA (18-5, 10-1), a team it stunned last weekend 106-79. Earlier this year, Oregon beat WSU, 63-54, in a game the Cougars came from behind but fell short in the end.
