Lakeside One Win From State

Mary Kolar scored 11 points and grabbed 11 reounds to help Lakeside coast to a 46-24 win over Lapwai in a A-3 District I-II loser-out girls basketball game at Moscow Jr. High Friday night.

The Knights improved to 19-5 overall, and will play Kamiah (10-11) today for the final state berth. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at Moscow Jr. High.

Lily James led the Wildcats with 10 points. They finish at 12-10.

KDee Anderson hit two consecutive 3-pointers for a six-point lead heading into halftime, and the visiting Blackhawks defeated the Bantams to tie idle East Valley for the best league record among Washington schools.

Kara Weitman scored Cheney’s first eight points of the second half. The league season is down to two games, including EV’s game at Cheney on Thursday.

The Bengals hit 35 of 50 free throws to defeat the visiting Trojans and tie Sandpoint for fifth place.

Lewiston is one game behind third-place Moscow. Lewiston completes its regular season tonight against Sandpoint and Moscow plays Post Falls.

Post Falls committed 42 fouls and had three players foul out.

The Lumberjacks were able to edge the first-year Tigers despite a fourth-quarter run by Timberlake. John Baker scored 10 of his team-high 16 in the fourth for the visiting Tigers.

Trent Duffey balanced 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Lumberjacks, keeping a game behind league-leading Kellogg.

The Lumberjacks forced 23 Timberlake turnovers, some of which caused them to lose their lead for good in the second quarter.

Timberlake had a 8-0 lead in the first quarter.

The Hawks pulled within three points with 2 minutes left, but the Wildcats used a 10-point spurt to drop the Hawks at Lakeland.

Mark Mangum scored a game-high 16 points, keeping Kellogg a game ahead of St. Maries in the league race.

Harrison Bertsch scored a team-high 15 points for the struggling Hawks.
