Price, Bellotti should be quiet
I find the clamor of Mike Price at Washington State and Mike Bellotti at Oregon humorous.
Together they pounce on Washington’s new football coach, Rick Neuheisel, for Rick’s coach visiting prospective players on a Sunday.
Yet it’s OK for Price and Bellotti to telephone visit with prospects on Sunday.

Strickland too hard on Cougars
As a Washington State University student and a lifelong basketball fan, I wanted to tell you that I am thoroughly disappointed in Carter Strickland’s coverage of the men’s basketball team at WSU.
His dislike for Kevin Eastman is apparent in every article he writes. After the USC win, I expected at least a little bit of some positive writing but I was let down again by this coverage.
I always thought a “beat writer” was supposed to be a professional journalist who tries to be unbiased. I think Mr. Strickland writes his articles more like a columnist than a beat writer.
I am to the point where I am going to stop subscribing to The Spokesman-Review because of this section of the sports page. I can find professional writing on the Cougars in some other source. Julie Christian Pullman
Colville wrestling team a class act
On Feb. 4, I had the privilege of officiating the match between Colville and Lakeside. Both teams, coaches, and fans showed a lot of class before, during and after the match.
What really impressed me the most was when the teams honored the seniors and the parents. While most schools do honor the seniors and parents at the last home match, it was the first time I have observed that the visiting team got to do the same thing. It was an emotional sight, because for some of the wrestlers, it will be one of the last matches they ever wrestle.
Parents were affected also because they live with the emotional ups and downs during the season.
It was a pleasure to go to Colville and receive the positive and proper treatment that was given to the fans and officials. Great job to the Colville coaching staff and administration. Keep up the good work. Rich Tschirgi, wrestling official Spokane
Gag response to Monday Night crew
Like most football fans, I watched the Pro Bowl … the last hurrah of the NFL season. I managed to watch most of it. I was, however, left with a bad taste in my mouth at the game’s conclusion.
It wasn’t the beer or the greasy chips. It was the thought of a replacement for Dan Dierdorf, the Monday Night Football analyst. He is to leave the MNF show and Boomer Esiason and Al Michaels, his very dear friends, were giving him a great send-off. I almost threw up. After a season of on-air jabs, Boomer was grateful to have Dan there to show him the ropes.
These two had no chemistry together and I saw a huge lack of class between Boomer and Dierdorf. They both talked too much and they both showed very little respect for one another, not to mention the players on the field.
Oh, sure, when it came to a great pass play by John Elway or a great catch by Jerry Rice, they quoted poets and raved about how quickly they will be in the Hall of Fame. But when teams got hammered by penalties and mental mistake, suddenly they were as forgiving and kind as a blind-side sack by Jack Lambert. Hey, guys, we still remember your bad days and your mental mistakes.
We just want to watch a good football game with little talk. Oh, Keith Jackson, how we miss you. Bob Tadjalli Medical Lake
