Two programs of interest to area hikers and backpackers are scheduled next week in Spokane.

Bill Frazier, state parks trail coordinator, will talk about the Spokane-to-Pasco rail trail, known as the Columbia Plateau Trail, Tuesday at a meeting of the Inland Empire Backcountry Horsemen at 7 p.m. in the Wildlife Building, 6116 N. Market. It’s free and open to the public. Info: 459-6426.

Thursday, Larry Barge of SmithKline Beecham Pharmaceuticals, will discuss “Lyme Disease: A Walk in the Woods” at REI, 1125 N. Monroe, at 7 p.m. Learn about Lyme Disease, protecting yourself against ticks and tick removal. It’s also free and open to the public. Info: 328-9900.
