The scrambled Great Northern League regular season ended Friday with two ties and Riverside on the outside looking in.

Chewelah’s win and Deer Park’s loss left those two teams tied for second place. Because second place guarantees an opening-round bye to the District 7 2A tournament, the two will play a tiebreaker on Monday night at Lakeside High.

Colville’s win and Lakeside’s loss left those two tied for fifth place. A coin flip gave Lakeside the No. 5 seed, Colville the No. 6.

Colville’s win over Riverside also knocked the Rams out of district contention.

District play begins Friday at Mt. Spokane High, with loser-out games of No. 3 Deer Park or Chewelah against No. 6 Colville, and No. 4 Medical Lake vs. No. 5 Lakeside.

No. 1 Pullman and the No. 2 will have byes until Feb. 27.

Bryce Meserve was fouled on a defensive rebound and hit two free throws with 2 seconds left as the Cougars ended the season for the visiting Grizzlies.

Newport’s Harly Drum hit two free throws after a technical foul with 22 seconds left. Chewelah’s Josh Parrish had 14 rebounds.

Jeremy Bahr had 10 rebounds and hit 4 of 4 field goals from inside the 3-point line in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals toppled the visiting Stags.

Emery Meeks added nine rebounds and Mike Chappell scored seven of his 20 in the third quarter for ML.

The Cardinals shot 88 percent from the foul line. The Stags hit 59 percent.

Ben Woodard scored 13 second-half points and Chris Bond had a steal with 4 seconds left as the Blackhawks upset the seventh-ranked Eagles at Cheney.

Chris Oyolokor added eight points in the fourth quarter for Cheney, which trailed by as many as 14 points in the second quarter. Cheney took its first lead with 4 minutes left.

WV finishes the regular season tonight at Clarkston (1-18, 1-16), its opponent when the District 7 3A tournament opens Tuesday at WV and East Valley. Cheney opens against EV (13-7).
