GU president to give lecture

Gonzaga University President Robert Spitzer will speak on “He Is the Lord” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Jepson Center Auditorium on campus.

The free lecture will look at the work and person of Jesus Christ and the literature relating to him. A question-and-answer period will follow.

The lecture is sponsored by Gonzaga’s Catholic Studies Concentration.

The program, which began last fall, is designed to allow students to investigate Catholic beliefs, culture and societal contributions from a variety of perspectives and disciplines.

Gonzaga is also starting a new master’s degree and teaching certification program for those interested in becoming Catholic elementary schoolteachers. Evening and weekend classes are part of the schedule.

There will be an open house at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the Rosauer Center for Education on the Gonzaga campus. (323-5912)

Helping professions topic

“The Significance of Spirituality and Theology in the Helping Professions: Personally and Professionally” will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. next Saturday at the Riverpoint Higher Education Park, downtown.

The workshop will be led by the Rev. Michael Jemmott, senior-staff chaplain at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

The event is sponsored by the Eastern Washington University Department of Distance and Extended Learning.

The workshop is designed for ministers, counselors, nurses and others in the helping professions. Cost: $60.
