Roadkill Salvaged

Inland Northwest Wildlife Council

Volunteers from the Inland Northwest Wildlife Council salvaged more than 4,000 pounds of wild meat that otherwise would have spoiled along the region’s roads last year.

With the blessing of the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department, the volunteers responded to calls from enforcement agents. The volunteers drove to the accident site and field dressed big-game animals that had been killed in collisions with vehicles.

In December alone, the volunteers responded to 13 incidents, bringing the year’s total to 60. Those responses resulted in 37 deer, three elk and three moose being salvaged and the meat donated to the Union Gospel Mission.
