Alpine skiing/snowboarding
Three area businesses are offering discounts for lift tickets: Pick up a coupon at Yoke’s grocery stores and receive $2 off any Mount Spokane lift ticket. Burger King is offering $2 off Friday-night skiing at Silver Mountain and Kentucky Fried Chicken has a promotion in which two people can ski Mondays at 49 Degrees North for $22.
The third annual Ground Zero Boarder Cross will be held at Schweitzer Mountain Saturday. The Boarder Cross features X-Games-style 4-at-a-time, shoulder-to-shoulder racing. Info: (208) 265-6714.
Schweitzer will also hold a snowboard demo day Sunday in the Village area.
Nordic skiing
The upper trails in the Sun Mountain area and the lower Methow Valley were groomed Tuesday night.
Speaking of the Methow Valley area, skiers will race from Winthrop to Mazama Saturday in the Methow Valley Signature Ski Race. Skiers will follow the same course in reverse Sunday. Recreational skiers may choose to run either the first or second day only. Info: (509) 996-3287.
The FIS Telemark World Cup Races will be held Saturday through Tuesday at The Big Mountain in Whitefish, Mont.
Snowmobiling
The majority of the Shoshone County snowmobile trails have been groomed recently. These include trails on the east side of the Glidden Lakes into Mullan, from the Mullan Fish Hatchery over the pass, and through Placer outside Wallace into Avery.
