Poll Includes Olerud

Former Washington State University first baseman/ pitcher John Olerud, now the first baseman for the New York Mets, ranked seventh in Baseball America’s balloting to name the college player of the century.

Former Oklahoma State slugger Pete Incaviglia was the winner, beating out a fellow Cowboy, third baseman Robin Ventura, and Arizona State infielder Bob Horner. Incaviglia had the most impressive offensive year in NCAA history as a junior in 1985, when he set several current NCAA single-season records including 48 home runs and 143 runs batted in.

Some restrictions on aluminum bats designed to make them more “wood-like” will take effect for this summer’s college championships, the NCAA said.
