Today’S Best Bets

Women’s basketball

Stanford at WSU

Time, site: 7 p.m., Friel Court, Pullman.

Summary: The Cougars (7-7, 1-4) return home after dropping two games to the Oregon schools and three straight.

Don’t be fooled by Stanford’s 7-9, 3-2 fourth-place standing in the conference.

The team is young and has shown it through losses to current-No. 1 Tennessee, No. 6 Texas Tech, No. 8 Colorado and No. 10 UCLA. But Stanford never has had trouble with the Cougars, evident by its 26-0 record. The Cougars live on the 3-point shot. Their 7.9 3s per game rank them second nationally. If the Cougars are off - particularly conference-leading scorer Tricia Lamb (18.2 ppg) - it could be a long night.

Men’s basketball

Montana State at EWU

Time, site: 7:05 p.m., Reese Court, Cheney.

Radio: KKPL 630 Summary: Eastern (6-9, 3-2 Big Sky) continues an important four-game conference homestand against the Bobcats (8-8, 2-3), who have disappointed early. The Eagles are coming off a draining 101-100 loss to Weber State in four overtimes, and coach Steve Aggers is concerned about his young team’s morale.

MSU is a strong, physical and experienced team that boasts one of the top inside threats in the Big Sky in senior center Nate Holmstadt. Eastern’s biggest strength is its depth. So look for the Eagles to keep the pace brisk and the substitutions flowing.
