Ferris Gives Prep No Quarter

GSL girls

The Ferris Saxons did some thing they haven’t done all year Friday.

Led by Megan Taylor, they played four complete quarters of basketball and stunned fourth-ranked Gonzaga Prep 65-54 in a Greater Spokane League match-up at Ferris.

“That was the key to the win,” Ferris coach Art Rojas said. “We hadn’t been able to put together four solid quarters this year until this game.”

The win avenged a 59-47 overtime loss Gonzaga dealt Ferris in the league’s seasonopener.

The loss was the second straight for Prep, which started the weekend undefeated.

“They’re a good team,” Rojas said. “They put a lot of points on the board in the first half, but we just kept running.”

Taylor, a 6-foot-1 junior post, finished with a career-high 18 points to lead the Saxons.

“It was nice to see Megan play so well,” Rojas said. “She’s been sick part of the year and hopefully we’ll see even more of what she can do now that she’s feeling better.”

Ferris pulled away in the fourth quarter after leading Gonzaga by just one point after three periods.
