City Honors Pair For Quick Actions

From Staff

City officials presented two retirement center workers with awards on Friday for rescuing a man whose apartment caught fire last fall.

Forest Place Retirement Community employees Addie Pannell and Katherine Valeu worked quickly to put out a fire they discovered Nov. 7 in Joe Krenwinkl’s apartment, according to the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department.

While Pannell called the fire department, Valeu helped Krenwinkl out of his apartment. Pannell then used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

Firefighters credited both women with saving the man’s life and limiting the amount of damage to Forest Place.

Mayor Steve Judy and city Fire Chief Richard Lasky presented women with keys to the city during a presentation at the retirement center.
