Three Area Preps Win At Regional Meet

Justin Drake of Colville, Megan Poffenroth of Spokane and Marci Hulbert of Spokane were first-place finishers Saturday among the area’s high school-age entrants in the Junior Olympics Region XIII championships at Eastern Washington University.

Competition in the four-day event concludes today. The first three finishers in all finals in all age groups throughout the meet advance to the national championships.

Drake topped a field of 13 entrants in the intermediate boys long jump, leaping 21 feet, 6 inches.

Poffenroth, who will be a sophomore at Ferris High School, took the intermediate girls 400 meters in 1:00.60.

Hulbert, from University High School, won the intermediate girls pole vault by clearing 8-0-1/2.

National qualifiers in all events are listed in the Stat Sheet (C10).
