Maude Falstad Chattaroy

Memorial service for Maude Falstad, 98, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at the United Church of Christ in Chewelah, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Falstad, who was born in Rockhold, Ky., died Thursday.

As a young child she moved to a farm west of Addy, Wash., with her family.

After the death of her mother, she quit school at the age of 17 to raise her siblings.

Mrs. Falstad later finished school and attended Cheney Normal School. She received her teaching certificate in 1923 and her lifetime diploma in 1926.

She then moved to Finley, Wash., with her father and siblings, and in 1926 married Charles Falstad. They lived in Sunnyside, Wash., where they farmed.

In 1928 Mrs. Falstad moved to Addy to farm. Her husband died in 1959.

She sold the farm in Addy and moved to Chewelah. In 1996 she moved to the Riverview Estates in Chattaroy.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Falstad of Addy; two daughters, Donna Kreis of Colville, Wash., and Carole Hansen of Chewelah; a brother, Lester King; two sisters, Lois Blake and Eunice Staudacher; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Christ in Chewelah.

Harry Ensminger Nespelem, Wash.

Funeral for Harry A. Ensminger, a former longtime Inchelium, Wash., resident, will be at 10 a.m. today at Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash.

Mr. Ensminger, who was born in Kettle Falls, Wash., died Friday. He was 86.

He attended Sherman Creek School through the eighth grade and then worked at a lumber mill on Barnaby Creek, and on the construction of Grand Coulee Dam.

Mr. Ensminger enlisted in the Navy in 1941 and served for two years as a Seabee during World War II.

In 1943 he moved to Alaska, where he worked as a teamster for 26 years. He retired in 1969 and returned to Inchelium.

In 1992 he moved to Spokane, where he lived for four years before moving to Nespelem.

Survivors include a son, Gerry Ensminger of Spokane; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Inchelium High School Scholarship Fund.

Rand Greene Coeur d’Alene

Service for Rand Ralph Greene, 68, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Greene, who was born in Portland, died Thursday.

He grew up in Pilot Rock, Ore., and then worked at Pilot Rock Lumber Mill. Mr. Greene transferred to Coeur d’Alene in 1973.

In 1976 he married Lila Edvalson. He lived in Coeur d’Alene and retired form Louisiana Pacific in 1994.

Mr. Greene was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Glenn Greene of Pilot Rock and Craig Greene of Spokane; a daughter, Pamela Greene of Salt Lake City; two stepsons, Lloyd Edvalson of Illinois and David Edvalson of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Katrina Gallup of Texas; and 17 grandchildren.

Margaret Dannen Spokane

Memorial service for Margaret “Peggy” Dannen, 49, will be at 3 p.m. today at the Faith Bible Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Miss Dannen died Friday.

She was a member of Faith Bible Church.

Survivors include her mother, Arline Dannen of Spokane; two sisters, Willena Dannen of Spokane and Anita Hornaday of Colville, Wash.; and her aunt, Ruth Ross of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Alma (Lindahl) Treede Fairfield

Service for Alma (Lindahl) Treede, 92, will be at 2 p.m. today at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairfield. Burial will be at Rosewood Cemetery in Fairfield. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.

A longtime Spokane County resident, Mrs. Treede died Friday. She was born in Spokane.

She was an elementary school teacher for many years, beginning her career in 1926 in Duncan, a small town south of Spokane.

Mrs. Treede was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Spokane and attended Zion Lutheran Church in Fairfield.

Her husband, Henry Treede, died in 1984.

Survivors include a brother, Elmer Lindahl; a niece, Karen Doty of Spokane; two nephews, Frank Haugland of Cincinnati and Jerry Haugland of Toledo, Ohio.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Fairfield Good Samaritan Center, Grace Lutheran Church in Spokane or Zion Lutheran Church in Fairfield.

Hazel Rothstein Spokane

Funeral Mass for Hazel Lucille Rothstein, 72, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rothstein, who died Friday, was born in Oakland, Calif.

She was a 35-year Spokane resident, a homemaker and a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.

Her husband, Richard, died in 1975.

Survivors include two sons, David Rothstein of Ephrata and Rick Rothstein of Nine Mile Falls; two sisters, Evelyn DeRusha of California and Lorraine Bakken of Minnesota; a brother, Howard DeRusha of Everett; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ruby Walker Post Falls

Visitation for Ruby Joy Walker, 92, will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Tabernacle Church in Post Falls.

Mrs. Walker, who was born in Faribault, Minn., died Saturday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Faribault. In 1927 she married Jim Walker in 1927.

Mrs. Walker lived in North Dakota before settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1934.

She was a charter member of the Assembly of God Church and taught Sunday School for many years.

Her husband died in 1994.

Survivors include five sons, Reid Walker of Clarkston, Wash., Bruce Walker of Coeur d’Alene, David Walker of Pasco, and Daniel and Dean Walker, both of Post Falls; a daughter, Delores Taylor or Colville, Wash.; 19 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Betty Markotics Spokane

Visitation for Betty Marie Markotics, a longtime Spokane resident, will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Funeral is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Markotics, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Friday. She was 81.

In 1961 she married Imre Markotics.

She was a homemaker and worked as a home health care provider.

Her husband died in 1995. Her son, Timmy Sease, died in 1990.

She is survived by a brother, Gilbert Scriven of Bothell, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruby Holland Spokane

Vigil for Ruby Z. Holland, 92, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 44-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Holland died Saturday. She was born in Juliaetta, Idaho.

Mrs. Holland was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sisters, Beatrice Frank of Coeur d’Alene and Elizabeth Dennison of South Dakota.

Marliss `Sarge’ Gigler Spokane

Memorial service for Marliss M. “Sarge” Gigler, a 58-year Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Central Lutheran Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Gigler, who was born in Duluth, Minn., died last Wednesday . She was 67.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.

Miss Gigler worked as a bookkeeper for a life and casualty insurance company for several years.

She was a member of Central Lutheran Church.

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

Mike Gladden Spokane

Memorial gathering for Mike Gladden, 43, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the home Wayne Gladden. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Gladden died Thursday.

He worked for several local cabinet shops.

Survivors include his wife, Debby Clemens; a son, Michael Gladden of Spokane; his mother, Ann LaTurner of Spokane; three brothers, Wayne Gladden of Spokane, Timothy Gladden of Skagway, Alaska, and Mark LaTurner of Puyallup, Wash.; and a sister, Allison Teeselink of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charlotte Vining Colville, Wash.

Memorial service for Charlotte Oletta Vining, a longtime Stevens County resident, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Colville First Congregational Church. Danekas Funeral Home in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Vining, who was born in Mountain View, Wash., died July 8. She was 89.

She was raised and attended schools in Mountain View and Asotin, Wash. After her schooling she began working, and married Arthur Vining in 1929.

They traveled throughout Washington, living in various cities. In 1939 they moved to Stevens County, and in 1953 to Colville.

Mrs. Vining began working for Colville Floral in 1958. She retired many years later.

She was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge and a 25-year member of the Mount Carmel Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Vining of Kettle Falls, Wash., Weldon Vining of Boulder City, Nev., Larry Vining of Colville and Jerry Vining of Coulee Dam, Wash.; four daughters, Virginia Davis and Carolyn Brooks, both of Colville, Wanda Lentz of Spokane and Diane Baxter of Kettle Falls; a brother, Walter Wood of Clarkston, Wash.; two sisters, Eunice Boggan of Anatone, Wash., and Lois Jacobson of Kellogg; 30 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Carmel Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund or Colville First Congregational Church.

Alma Hadley Spokane

No service will be held for Alma E. Hadley, 94, at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Hadley died Friday.

She attended schools in Spokane, graduating from Lewis and Clark High School.

Mrs. Hadley worked as the office manager for Penn Mutual Insurance Co. for 25 years.

She was a member of Professional Secretaries International.

Survivors include a nephew, Ronnie Snodgrass of San Jose, Calif.
