Sharon Foley Coeur d’aAene

Memorial service for Sharon M. Foley, 58, will be Saturday at 7 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Mrs. Foley, who was born in Billings, Mont., died Tuesday.

She lived in Fountain Valley, Calif., for 20 years and was a homemaker. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1993. She was active in etched glass artistry.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; a son, Timothy Foley of California; two stepsons, Kevin Foley of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Kelly Foley of California; three stepdaughters, Diane Mooney, Kathy Burns and Mauren Upton, all of California; her mother, Doris Hutchins of California; a brother, Alan Hutchins of Worley, Idaho; and nine grandchildren.

Nellie Krogh Clarkston, Wash.

Visitation for Nellie M. Krogh, 84, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. today at Merchant Funeral Home in Clarkston. Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Vineland Cemetery in Clarkston.

Mrs. Krogh, who was born in Pullman, died Wednesday.

She was raised and attended schools in Moscow, Idaho. In 1932 she married Eugene Rolph. They were later divorced.

Mrs. Krogh lived in Spokane for a few years before moving to Clarkston in 1943. In 1947 she attended business college in Lewiston and then became the bookkeeper for Rolph Truck Lines in Lewiston.

In 1953 she married Claire Krogh.

In 1958 Mrs. Krogh earned a licensed practical nursing degree and began working at Rest Haven, which is now the Clarkston Care Center.

In 1976 she moved to Rockford and worked at the Fairfield Nursing Home for a few years before retiring.

Her second husband died in 1993 and she returned to Clarkston in 1998.

Mrs. Krogh was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Old Time Fiddlers and the Licensed Nurse Practitioners Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Eva Akers and Marijane Goodlake, both of Spokane, and JoAnn Harvey of Clarkston; a son, Robert Rolph of Spokane; 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.

Madelyn McKern Spokane

Funeral for Madelyn McKern, 79, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. McKern, who was born in Pine City, Wash., died Tuesday. She was a 27-year Spokane resident.

She retired as a licensed nurse practitioner at Deaconess Medical Center.

Mrs. McKern was a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered with the American Cancer Society.

Her husband, William McKern, died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, David McKern of Kettle Falls, Wash.; a daughter, Sharon Sanders of Spangle, Wash.; a brother, Tom Jones of Spokane; two sisters, Emmy Schmidt of Fairfield and Anitta Mase of Spokane; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

George Naccarato Spokane

Funeral Mass for George T. Naccarato, 94, is planned for 8 a.m. Saturday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Priest River, Idaho, Mr. Naccarato died July 23. He was a 65-year Spokane resident.

He worked as a carpenter and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 98.

Mr. Naccarato was also a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Elks and Eagles lodges.

Survivors include two daughters, Edythe Weetman of Spokane and Georgia MacDonald of Roseville, Calif.; three brothers, Victor Naccarato of Yakima, Sylvio Naccarato of Ulen, Minn., and William Naccarato of Priest River; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Margaret `Shorty’ Taisey Hayden Lake, Idaho

Graveside service for Margaret “Shorty” Taisey, 81, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Taisey, who was born in St. Maries, died Tuesday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in St. Maries. She played the piano and sang at weddings and funerals in St. Maries.

In 1942 she married Vernon “Bud” Taisey. They moved to Los Angeles.

She also lived in Las Vegas and Albany, Ore., before retiring and settling in Hayden Lake in 1970.

Mrs. Taisey was a former member of the Elks Lodge and a past officer of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include her husband; and three sisters, June Holstein, Evelyn Barden and Agnes Buell, all of St. Maries.

Myrtle Matson Spokane

Graveside service for Myrtle C. Matson, 94, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Matson, who was born in Minnesota, died Wednesday.

She came to Spokane in the mid 1920s and attended the Deaconess School of Nursing.

In 1927 she married Oscar Matson.

Mrs. Matson worked as a registered nurse and charge nurse of the maternity floor at Deaconess Medical Center for many years. She retired in the 1970s.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Central United Methodist Church.

Her husband died in 1994.

Survivors include a son, Donald Matson of Pasco; two brothers, George Bailey of Priest River, Idaho and Frank Bailey of Sheridan, Wyo.; three sisters, Ruby Mayer and Annabelle Bower, both of Spokane, and Betty McSweyn of Portland; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard Favaro Spokane

Vigil for Richard D. Favaro, 78, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A 31-year Spokane resident, Mr. Favaro died Tuesday. He was born in Elk River, Idaho.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.

Mr. Favaro worked as a salesman in the lumber industry for many years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Lewiston (Idaho) Elks Lodge and the Notre Dame Boosters Club.

Survivors include his wife, Dela; two sons, Richard Favaro of Seattle and Douglas Favaro of Elk; five daughters, Paula and Minna Favaro, both of Spokane, Lisa Madison of Cheney, Marsha Michels of Vancouver, Wash., and Valerie Claypool of Wallace; a brother, Bernard Favaro of San Francisco; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

Phama Sutherland Spokane

Memorial service for Phama C. Sutherland, a lifetime Spokane County resident, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial was previously held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Sutherland, who was born in Deep Creek, died Tuesday. She was 89.

She attended elementary school in Deep Creek and in 1927 graduated from North Central High School in Spokane. That same year she married Harold Sutherland.

Mrs. Sutherland was a homemaker and worked as a clerk at The Crescent department store for a few years.

She was a member of the first Church of the Nazarene, where she was active with the choir and taught Sunday school.

Her husband died in 1974.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene and Richard Sutherland, both of Spokane; a daughter, LaVerle Mitrovich of San Diego; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Henry Brown Jr. Sandpoint

Memorial service for Henry Albert “Hank” Brown Jr., 69, will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church, 423 N. Lincoln, Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown, who was born in Raleigh, N.C., died Wednesday.

He grew up in Columbia, S.C., and graduated from high school there while beginning his flying career.

Mr. Brown joined the Marine Corps and later the Air Force, serving in Japan and with the 5th Air Force in Honolulu during the Vietnam War.

He moved to Arizona and in 1952 married Sydney Lauderdale. He continued an Air Force career, retiring in 1968 out of Kingsley AFB, Oregon, after 20 years.

Mr. Brown worked as a bush pilot in Friday Harbor, Wash., before moving to Texas in 1974, where he flew for Lady Bird Johnson for a year. He then lived in Hoquiam, Wash., and finished a commercial flying career with Harbor Airlines. He also had worked as an executive pilot for Sumas Transport and as a flight instructor for more than 10 years.

Mr. Brown moved to Sandpoint in 1998. He was a vocalist and was active in theater. He was a member of the Friday Harbor Grange.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Sharon Sampson of Duvall, Wash., Carolyn Hulbert of Sandpoint, Stephen Brown of Woodinville, Wash., and Judy Luckenbach of Fredericksburg, Texas; two sisters, Norma Finger and Betty Weston, both of South Carolina; and 11 grandchildren.

Rita Holland Post Falls

Service for Rita M. Holland, 75, will be held at a later date. English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Holland, who was born in Groton, N.Y., died Monday.

She was a Catholic nun and taught school at various schools, including Immaculate Conception Church in Post Falls.

She moved to the Post Falls area in 1970 from New York and was a member of St. George’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include three brothers, Bob, Thomas and Bill Holland, all of New York.

Evelyn Jones Sprague, Wash.

Graveside memorial service for Evelyn June Jones, 88, is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Macabee Cemetery in Sprague. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Harrington, Wash., Mrs. Jones died July 28.

She graduated from Sprague High School in 1930. She attended Cheney Normal School and received a teaching certificate.

Mrs. Jones taught school in St. John, Wash., and later in Harrington.

In 1935 she married Melvin Jones. They owned and operated a wheat and cattle ranch north of Sprague. They retired in 1970 and spent their winters in Phoenix.

Mrs. Jones was an avid horsewoman and participated in many Lilac Festival parades and Chief Joseph trail rides. She was a 4-H Leader who taught horsemanship and was a member of the Henrietta Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, the American Association of University Women and a lifetime member of the Christian Science Church.

Her husband died in 1983.

Survivors include her companion, Floyd Sander of Sprague; a daughter, Melette Moore of Kahlotus, Wash.; a son, Jan Jones of Cheney; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
