Don’T Give Family’S Ebert A Thumbs-Up

You know how almost all families have one person who ridicules everyone else’s tastes in movies?

Well, here’s a tip. Ignore them. That drives those people crazy.

* Children know you’re lying when you say:

1. “We’ll get some later.”

2. “We’ll do it next time we come.”

3. “Nothing to worry about.”

4. “We’ll buy some when we’re ready to leave.”

5. “We’re almost there.”

6. “The show’s about to start.”

* It’s not really summer in the Inland Northwest until …: “The wagon slide at Riverfront Park reaches 350 degrees.” — Lesley Haskell

“Lenny gets stitches.” — friends of Lenny Long

* Just wondering: If you have some clocks that you never got around to adjusting for daylight-saving time, does it make sense at this point to just leave them alone and wait for fall?

* One afterthought in the wake of the police chief controversy: Isn’t it interesting that apparently there are people around here so dimwitted as to assume that everyone originally from the East is essentially alike?

Perhaps Spokane ought to establish Sister Cities relationships with several communities on or near the Atlantic Seaboard.

* Helpful reminder: Summer workers with two-way radios don’t necessarily have functioning brains.

* Let’s see a show of hands: How many people, when fiddling with a sprinkler-head attached to an automatic watering system, have wound up getting a small geyser right in the face?

* Slice answer: The local business with the broadest range of employee personalities is Citadel Communications, said Terry Charbonneau.

* Multiple choice: When I phone people at home, it often sounds as if I interrupted them in the middle of …

a.) watching sports on TV.

b.) doing exercises.

c.) sex.

d.) eating dinner.

e.) taking a nap.

f.) talking to a family member on the other line.

g.) I don’t care — I’m a telemarketer.

* Warm-up question: Do IMAX films give you motion sickness?

* Today’s Slice question: Everyone knows that having a workout partner or a running partner can help a person stick to an exercise regimen. But in what aspect of your life unrelated to physical fitness would a partner really make a difference?
