Actors Eyeing ‘Mountain’ Role

Tom Cruise, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and other A-listers are eyeing the lead in Anthony Minghella’s “Cold Mountain,” sources said.

Cruise has been enamored of the project for some time, but Damon could have the inside track given the fact that he just worked with the Academy Award-winning Minghella (“The English Patient”) on “The Talented Mr. Ripley.”

From author Charles Frazier, “Mountain” is a Civil War drama that focuses on a wounded Confederate soldier who gets up from his hospital bed and begins walking home. The project is being written by Minghella.
