Rivers Named Magic Coach

Doc Rivers plans to coach the same way he played.

“I’m up here giving you no promises, except for I’m going to work as hard as I can work to try to make this a success,” the ex-point guard said Monday after being named coach of the Orlando Magic.

Rivers, 37, who played with four different teams during a 13-year NBA career that ended in 1996, becomes the second-youngest coach in the league behind New York’s Jeff Van Gundy, who is also 37.
