Golfers Earn Aau Berths

Two area high school golfers will compete in the AAU National Championships Aug. 5-6 in Cleveland after winning age-group titles Monday in Yakima.

Marty Nauert of Central Valley shot a 74 to capture the 16-and-under title at the AAU Pacific Northwest Junior Championships at Appletree Golf Course. Corey Prugh of Ferris won the 19-and-under championship with a 72.

Mt. Spokane High School senior Matt Kodama fell far off the pace in the Las Vegas Founders’ Legacy junior golf tournament at Henderson, Nev., shooting 83 for a 36-hole total of 159.

Three players share the lead at 141, including Travis Whisman of Reno, who carded a 69.

Legion baseball

Josh Taylor pitched a complete game, striking out eight, and also homered to lead the Blue Devils over the Bandits 9-6 at Jackson Field.

Derek Bishop homered and added two runs batted in for the Blue Devils. Jon Spear was 2 for 3, with a homer, for the Bandits.
