Two Area Residents Graduate Basic Training
Air Force Airmen Cheryl A. Powell and Charlie Cola have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Powell is the daughter of Chris Powell, Spokane, and Catherine Hoernlein, Spokane. She is a 1996 graduate of Ferris High School.
Cola is the son of Kathy Cola, Valley, Wash., and Charlie Cola, Deer Park. He is a 1998 graduate of Jenkins High School in Chewelah.
Two students from Spokane were recognized during the University of Southern Mississippi’s Awards Day ceremony.
Michelle Patchett, a sophomore psychology major, received the Air Force ROTC Superior Performance Award. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Patchett.
Jeremy Gott received the College of the Arts Endowment Scholarship. He is the son of Robert and Ann Gott, and a senior majoring in music.
Reverie Mott, Spokane, has graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, with a degree in music.
University of Washington junior Jerod Edington has been elected president of the Sigma Chi fraternity’s Seattle chapter, one of the largest fraternities on the West Coast. Edington also was selected Most Inspirational Fraternity member for the 1998-99 academic year.
Edington is co-author of the cover article of the March issue of “Bio-Techniques.” His article is based on his and three other students’ experimental research, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health at the University of Washington Department of Radiation Oncology and Case Western Reserve University of Medicine.
He is the son of Joseph and Sherry Edington, Spokane, and a 1996 graduate of Mead High School.
