Dave Whaley of Lewiston won re-election to a four-year term over Teamsters Local 582 business agent Larry Kenck of Post Falls for president of the Idaho AFL-CIO. Whaley, a former Potlatch Corp. worker, was backed by 53 percent of the delegates.

Profits at U.S. commercial banks reached a record $18 billion in the first quarter, up 12.9 percent from the January-March period last year, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said.

Singapore Airlines plans to exercise its options to buy 10 Boeing 777-200ER passenger jets worth $1.9 billion, the company said.
