Elmer `Bob’ Krueger St. Maries
Service for Elmer L. “Bob” Krueger, 84, will be today at 11 a.m. at the St. Maries Foursquare Gospel Church. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Krueger, who was born in North Dakota, died Thursday.
He grew up in North Dakota and eastern Montana. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and settled in the St. Maries area in 1934.
Mr. Krueger married Phyllis Powell in 1938 and worked in the woods and then was a miner in the Silver Valley during World War II.
He then worked for the Milwaukee Railroad prior to beginning a career with the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. in 1969. He retired in 1984.
Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, Phyllis; two sons, Roland Krueger of Boise and Delmar Krueger of St. Maries; two daughters, Rosalyn Bell and Delena Krueger, both of St. Maries; five brothers, Walter and Iray Krueger, both of Longmont, Colo., Bennie and Allen Krueger, both of California, and Arthur Krueger of Olympia, Wash.; three sisters, Helen Schmidt of California, Edna Knudson of Missoula and Celia Chynoweth of Arizona; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dana Harter Arlington, Texas
Funeral for Dana E. Harter, a former longtime chemistry professor at Eastern Washington University, was Monday at First Baptist Church of Arlington. Burial will be at the Nine Mile Cemetery in Wallace, Idaho. Mr. Harter died Friday. He was 89.
He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Washington in 1945. He moved to Cheney and was a chemistry professor and dean of health services at EWU for many years.
Mr. Harter was involved in establishing the programs for nursing and dental hygiene at the university. Following his retirement, he taught for a short time at Gonzaga University.
In 1979 he moved to Texas, where he was active with the Texas Teacher Retirement Association, the City of Arlington Volunteers, was a volunteer for a reading mentor program, was a deacon and coordinator of the senior volunteers at the First Baptist Church of Arlington and served on the advisory board of the senior adult center in Arlington.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; a daughter, Joan Stanley; and a stepdaughter, Peggy Anderson, both of Arlington; and two grandchildren.

Lawrence Heimark St. Maries
Graveside service for Lawrence Willard Heimark, 83, will be today at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Heimark, who was born in St. Maries, died Saturday.
He served with the Army in Europe during World War II.
Mr. Heimark returned to the St. Maries area and married Frances Schwartz in 1945. He operated the St. Maries Texaco Service Station from 1950-62. He then worked as a flagger in the construction industry before retiring in 1978.
Mr. Heimark was a 45-year member of the St. Maries Eagles Aerie and a former member of the St. Maries Elks Lodge.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harold Heimark of Oregon and Dewey Heimark of Nevada; two daughters, Judy Humphrey of St. Maries and Margaret Lightfoot of Hayden Lake, Idaho; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Freddie Matthews Spokane
Inurnment for Freddie “Fred” Matthews, 66, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Matthews died Thursday.
He served with the Washington National Guard and the Army and later worked as a truck driver for many years.
Survivors include his mother, Ruby Butte Irvine; a sister, Dorothy Powell; four children; and four grandchildren.
Alice Neff Spokane
Funeral for Alice M. Neff, an 80-year Spokane resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeNorth. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Neff, who was born on Peone Prairie, died Saturday. She was 91.
She attended a one-room schoolhouse and Beaver Creek Grade School before graduating in 1928 from Walla Walla High School.
Mrs. Neff began her career as a cook at the Coeur d’Alene Hotel, where she worked for two years before moving to California to work at the Dupree Restaurant in Hollywood.
She entered nursing school while in California, and in 1942 earned her degree as a licensed practical nurse from Spokane Community College.
During World War II Mrs. Neff worked for Alcoa Aluminum at Trentwood, which is now Kaiser, and continued to work there for 23 years.
She also worked at the Obstetrics/ Gynecology Clinic at the Fairchild Air Force Base Hospital. She retired in 1971 but continued to work as a private duty nurse for ten more years. She retired again in 1981.
Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Patricia McCarty Spokane
Memorial service for Patricia J. McCarty, 66, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Sacred Heart Doctors Building Chapel. Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth is in charge of arrangements.
A 30-year Spokane resident, Mrs. McCarty died Friday. She was born in Wichita, Kan., and grew up in Canada.
Mrs. McCarty served as a photographer with the Air Force in the early 1950s. She was discharged in 1953 as an airman second class.
She went on to work as the communications supervisor at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 27 years.
Mrs. McCarty was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of 32 years, Perry; two sons, Daniel Willcockson of Spokane and Anthony McCarty of Yakima; two sisters, Karen Bice of Mapleton, Ore., and Beverly Reed of Issaquah, Wash.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

George Whitehead Spokane
Funeral for George T. Whitehead, 76, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home.
A 26-year Spokane resident, Mr. Whitehead died June 15. He was born in Moorhead, Miss.
He married Annie “Grace” Barron in 1955.
Mr. Whitehead served with the Air Force for 27 years and later worked as the assistant maitre d’ at the Spokane Club for 16 years.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James Wood of Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Sue Hernandez of Spokane; a brother, Herman Whitehead of Moorhead; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Barbara Hoglan Spokane
Memorial service for Barbara R. Hoglan, 66, will be at 1 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hoglan, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.
She grew up in Port Hill, Idaho, and returned to Spokane 33 years ago. She worked as the assistant director for the Salvation Army.
Survivors include Gerald Hoglan; three daughters, Kathy Andres and Karen Roberts, both of Spokane, and Lynn Wehrman of Buckley, Wash.; two sons, Pat Hoglan of Phoenix and Scott Hoglan of Sarasota, Fla.; her mother, Fae Denham of Spokane; and seven grandchildren.

Laverne Rotchford Hayden Lake, Idaho
Funeral Mass for Laverne P. Rotchford, 89, was Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene. Burial followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane. Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rotchford, who was born in St. John, Wash., died Friday.
She grew up and graduated from high school in St. John and then moved to Spokane in 1927. She attended business school and worked at Federal Land Bank.
Mrs. Rotchford married Herbert Rotchford in 1937. They lived in Spokane and spent summers in Hayden Lake.
She moved to her Hayden Lake home in 1969 after her husband retired from his dental practice. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Hayden Lake and Spokane country clubs, and the Mother Singers.
Her husband died in 1981.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick Rotchford of Sandpoint and Herb Rotchford of Spokane; a daughter, Colleen Rotchford Zitkovich of Seattle; two brothers, Art Pierson of Tekoa, Wash., and Bill Pierson of Hayden Lake; two sisters, Fae Aerosmith of California and Jeffra Rice of Spokane; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Jean Davies Redding, Calif.
No service will be held for Jean B. Davies, 81.
Mrs. Davies, a longtime resident of the Spokane and Loon Lake areas, died May 5.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, she attended Eastwood High School in Edmonton.
In 1940 she married Dave Davies, and they lived in Goldfields, Saskatchewan, for three years, before moving to Castlegar, British Columbia, where they lived for 12 years. She worked as a legal secretary for a short time in Castlegar.
In 1958 she and her husband moved to Spokane, and she worked with Cominco American. They moved to Redding in 1997.
Mrs. Davies was a member of the Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Spokane.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Donald Davies of Torrance, Calif.; two daughters, Linda Cheatum of Redding and Maxine Silver of Spokane; a sister, Helen Currie of Victoria, British Columbia; and eight grandchildren.
Jesse Messer Spokane
Graveside service for Jesse Messer, 87, will be at 3 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 56-year Spokane resident, Mr. Messer died Wednesday. He was born in Chattaroy, W.Va.
Mr. Messer built the Excell Grocery Store on Francis and Crestline in 1952, owning and operating the store for several years.
He was a member of the Winnego Club, Independent Order of Foresters, Retail Merchants Association and the Lilac Drifters Recreational Vehicle Club.
His wife, Viola, died in 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Cane and Catherine Mulvania, both of Deer Park; five brothers, Virgil Messer of Lake Havasu, Ariz., Chester Messer of Gleason, Wis., Paul, Clifford and Cletus Messer, all of White Lake, Wis., and Curtis Messer of Antigo, Wis.; a sister, Lyda Mae Davis of Antigo; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Dell Cane Spokane
Funeral for Dell Cane, a 50-year Spokane resident, was Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Cane, who was born and raised in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, died Thursday. He was 76.
He was a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service for several years.
Mr. Cane was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and the Eagles Lodge. He was a volunteer for the Spokane Police Department.
Survivors include six sons, Jim Cane of Spokane, Thomas Cane of Bellevue, Wash., Paul Cane of Seattle, Neil Cane of Vancouver, Wash., Patrick Cane of Great Falls, Mont., and David Cane of Puyallup, Wash.; a daughter, Mary Baker of Manteca, Calif.; two sisters; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Drexel Spokane
Funeral Mass for Kenneth W. Drexel was held Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Colbert. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Drexel died Wednesday. He was 80.
He worked as a meat cutter for Market Basket, Becwar Packing Co. and SP Meats.
He retired in 1981 and then built homes in Hawaii and Idaho.
He was a member of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1439, the Moose Lodge, Eagles and Wandermere men’s golf teams and St. Aloysius Catholic Church.
His wife, Patricia, died in 1971.
Survivors include a son, Read Drexel of Spokane; a daughter, Joan Reathaford of Spokane; his companion of 23 years, Marie Nolan of Spokane; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Richard Morrison Spokane
No service will be held for Richard D. Morrison, 72, at his request. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Morrison, who was born in Sandpoint, died Saturday.
He moved to Spokane with his family at a young age. He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.
Mr. Morrison served in the Navy during World War II.
He worked as a meat cutter at Sigman’s in Spokane and later at Rosauer’s supermarkets for 42 years.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Donna; four children, Michelle Skalstad of Dayton, Wash., Mark and Kevin Morrison, both of Spokane, and Shawn Morrison of Cashmere, Wash.; his mother, Estella Cawrse; and five grandchildren.

Georgia Lacy Longview, Wash.
Graveside service for Georgia Lacy, 90, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.
A former 80-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Lacy died Thursday. She was born in Chewelah, Wash.
Mrs. Lacy graduated from North Central High School in 1927.
She was a homemaker and helped her first husband, Jack Malone, run his business, Monroe Hardware, on the corner of Monroe and Northwest Boulevard. She also helped open the south Spokane branch of the SherwinWilliams paint store.
Mrs. Lacy was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Her first husband preceded her in death, and she later married O. Glen Lacy. He also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Jack Malone of Longview and Jerry Malone of Spokane; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Evelyn Bell Spokane
Private service for Evelyn M. Bell, 82, will be held. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 54-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Bell died Thursday.
She was born in Lawton, Okla., and grew up in Texas. She then married her husband, Harry, and they traveled all over the country before settling in Washington state and later moving to the Spokane area.
In 1979 she retired from Holy Family Hospital after 15 years with the housekeeping department.
Mrs. Bell was a member of Hillyard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1474 Auxiliary and Spokane Eagles Lodge No. 2 Auxiliary.
Her husband died in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Geneva Bartleson of Coulee City, Wash.; a son, Glenn Henry of Owasso, Okla.; a sister and a brother; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
