Past Still Haunting Howe
Former major leaguer Steve Howe has appealed to the state to overturn the ban that’s keeping him from coaching the girls’ softball team on which his daughter plays.
He appealed to the school board in April after Whitefish superintendent Dave Peters first banned him as a volunteer assistant, then appealed to Flathead County superintendent Donna Maddux and lost again.
The softball association and the team supported him, but Peters refused to let him coach, citing the repeated problems with cocaine addiction that cost him his career.
Howe has been convicted of drug offenses and was suspended seven times from professional baseball for drug use.
