$7.2 Million Renovation Set For Schweitzer Sandpoint Ski Resort Plans To Upgrade Hotel, Ski Runs
Harbor Resorts plans to spend $7.2 million at Schweitzer Mountain Resort before the 1999-2000 ski season, the company announced this week.
Major improvements include the renovation of the Green Gables hotel, expanded night-skiing terrain, the creation of a beginner ski area with a handle tow, a new rental facility, new ticket and ski school offices, new retail outlets and repairs to the day lodge.
Tom Fortune, general manager of the resort, said the improvements will result in noticeable changes in the village area.
The changes are the first phase of redevelopment at Schweitzer, and Harbor executives said a plan for the next 10 years may be released as early as September.
In addition, Harbor Resorts is planning to expand the existing runs, introduce a new ticketing system, construct a storage building for the quad chairs, purchase new groomers and other maintenance vehicles, new Rossignol rental equipment, and install new signs.
Renovations at the Green Gables already have begun.
The hotel rooms are being remodeled and will be sold as condo-hotel units.
