Man Pinned Between Pickup And House
A 20-year-old Pinehurst man remained in serious condition Wednesday after being accidentally pinned between a pickup and a house.
Steven A. Nichols was helping a friend back up his truck Monday when he became trapped between the 1975 GMC truck and a Seventh Street house, according to a Coeur d’Alene police report. Nichols, who raised his arms when he became trapped, was pinned for several seconds while the truck’s driver continued backing up, mistakenly thinking Nichols was still waving him backwards, the report said.
Driver Scott Bumgardner, 28, eventually realized his friend was injured and pulled forward. Nichols suffered a lacerated liver and vena cava, an artery that carries blood to the heart, according to police reports.
A witness told police Nichols may not have noticed he was so close to the house when he instructed Bumgardner to continue backing up.
