No. 3 Sunnyside (16-7) at No. 2 Cheney (15-8), loser-out, winner meets No. 1 Eastmont (22-1). No. 4 Selah (8-13) at No. 2 West Valley-Yakima (20-2), loserout, winner meets No. 1 East ValleySpokane (14-8).

Mid-Valley girls

WV-Yakima was third in state a year ago, the Rams’ only loss of the year coming in the state semifinals. Ellensburg placed fifth… . Eastmont has a one-two senior punch of 5-foot-11 Natalie Jarrett and 5-10 Karissa Marting at 14.4 and 13.7 points, respectively… . WV-Yakima’s one-two punch is even more impressive. Katie Borton, a 6-0 senior, who has signed with Colorado State, the No. 4 team in the country, led the league at 18.1. Her sister Teresa, a 6-1 sophomore, was second at 16.5… . Stephanie Urrutia, a 5-9 sr. and the daughter of coach Steve Urrutia, is Sunnyside’s top scorer at 14.9, third in league. Hilary Berg, a 5-7 sr., adds 13.4… . Heather Pratt, a 5-11 soph., is tops for Selah at 14.6 with 5-3 freshman Brandy Wangler adding 11.8.

Frontier girls

EV-Spokane is led by Rebecca Triplett at 14.5 and sophomore Sara Shogren at 10.7. Senior guard Malea Schumacher has been in double figures six of the last eight games to boost her average to 7.9. … Cheney’s only double-figure scorer is Kara Weitman at 16.7.

Boys first round

No. 3 Moses Lake (11-13) at No. 2 East Valley-Spokane (15-8), loser-out, winner meets No. 1 Ellensburg (21-2). No. 4 WV-Yakima (16-7) at No. 2 Hanford (16-8), loser-out, winner meets No. 1 West Valley-Spokane (18-4).

Mid-Valley boys

WV-Yakima and Moses Lake got the state berths last year and both went 1-2. … Ellensburg is balanced with only 6-1 jr. guard Nate Standish in double figures at 11.8… . Hanford’s top scorers are Luke Gailey, a 6-2 jr., at 12.9, and 6-1 sr. Mike Birmingham at 11.2… . Moses Lake has the highest scoring duo in 5-8 senior Van Kemper and 6-5 freshman Jordan Reffert, at 13.3 and 13.2. Right behind is 6-1 jr. Blaine Fowkes at 12.8. … WV Yakima’s Jared Christianson, 6-0 sr., was third in the league at 15.6 and Byron Borton, a 6-5 sr., adds 10.4.

Frontier boys

The one-two scoring punch for WVSpokane is Eric Deno and Brad Groh at 16.6 and 15.1, respectively… . EV is led by league-scoring champion jr. Andrew Burgess at 19.7. The Knights are balanced after that with Jesse Quirk adding 9.7.
