Driver At Large
A 29-year-old man who eluded officers during a car chase that ended when his Jeep rolled down an embankment remained at large Tuesday.
The man, whose name has not been released, escaped late Monday after the truck rolled once on North Hayden Lake Road near Mokins Road and landed on its wheels.
Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies used a dog to search the area.
Deputies began chasing the man on Prairie Avenue because his truck matched the description of a drunken driver they were looking for.
The truck sped away from pursuing officers and turned north onto Government Way, reaching speeds of 85 mph, according to a deputy’s report. It turned east at Honeysuckle Road and then onto South Hayden Lake Road.
At one point, near Tobler Marina, the truck crossed the center line and nearly struck a car pulling of a driveway.
The man eventually lost control of the truck in the gravel on North Hayden Lake Road.
Deputies plan to ask a judge for an arrest warrant charging the man with felony eluding, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license. They withheld his name until charges are filed.
