A Mozart Masterpiece By Symphony

Travis Rivers

Mozart never lived to complete one of his most famous works, the Requiem in D minor. Others finished the work for him, still it has become a classic.

Tonight, Fabio Mechetti will lead the Spokane Symphony and the Symphony Chorale in Mozart’s final masterpiece. Soloists will include Spokane-born soprano Cynthia Kirkman, mezzo-soprano Allison Swenson, tenor Douglas Johnson and bass Gary Relyea. The concert will begin with Dominick Argento’s “Bravo Mozart!” an orchestral “biography” of the composer. Leonard Oakland, Whitworth College English professor, will discuss the evening’s music at the pre-concert lecture beginning at 7 in the Opera House auditorium.

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $14 to $30 and are available at the symphony box office in the Seafirst Building, 624-1200, and through G&B.
