Hints From Heloise

Dear Heloise: When a stubborn spot or burn leaves you with a ruined blouse, don’t throw it away. Buy a small pretty applique and sew it or iron it over the spot. The new appliques can now be ironed on. Lucille Thompson, White City, Ore.

Here’s a hint from my friend, Teri, from Lubbock, Texas. If the spot or burn is in a not-so-obvious place, space the appliques to form a nice pattern and no one will be the wiser. - Heloise

Dear Heloise: After laundering the linens, fold the contour sheet and pillowcases together. Then fold the top sheet into a long narrow strip, wrap it around the sheet and pillowcases and store as a bundle in the linen closet.

When you’re ready to put fresh linens on the bed, just grab a bundle. You’ll have matching sheets and right-size pillowcases all together without having to sort through stacks of linens.

Color coding is helpful too. Buy a unique color for each bed size you have. You can tell the right bundle at a glance. - Prudie Donoghue, Stafford, Texas
