Two Teens Cut When Rock Breaks Window

Two teenagers were cut by glass when a rock shattered the window of the car they were riding in late Saturday along East Riverview Drive.

Richard McCorkle, 16, of Post Falls, was treated at a minor emergency clinic for glass in his eye. Another 16-year-old Post Falls boy, Tyson Gernert, suffered cuts to his right forearm and both hands.

The car’s 18-year-old driver, Thomas Dituri, was not injured.

The teens told Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies Dituri pulled over to allow a car that had been following closely to pass a few minutes before the 11:30 p.m. incident. Dituri said he flashed his headlights at the car when it passed because its tail lights were not working.

Both cars continued west on East Riverview Drive, and the other car eventually sped away from the teens. A few minutes later, the teens noticed the car pulled off the road near Crystal Bay Road.

A rock smashed through the passenger’s side window as the teens drove by.

None of the teens recognized who threw the rock, according to a sheriff’s department report. They told deputies they saw three people standing beside a blue or gray, two-door Honda Civic.
