Replacement Worker Reports Vandalism

A man who crossed the picket line to work at Kaiser Aluminum told police his truck has been vandalized.

Randy Price, 44, said someone threw something on his 1991 Ford Bronco causing the paint to bubble and peel, according to a Coeur d’Alene police report. Price discovered the damage Thursday, but did not report it to police until Monday.

Damage extended the length of the truck on the passenger side, and included portions of the hood and tailgate, according to the report.

It was estimated at $5,000.

In January, Price also found nails scattered around his driveway in the road in front of his east Coeur d’Alene home.

Price told police he suspects both incidents are related to his work at Kaiser.

Steelworkers went on strike at two Spokane-area Kaiser plants on Sept. 30.

Negotiations between Kaiser and the United Steelworkers broke down on Jan. 14.

A day later, Kaiser rejected the union’s proposal to end the strike and locked out the workers.
