The Priest River Library has received a $32,856 library services and technology grant from the Idaho State Library. The grant will pay for software which will put the library’s card catalogue on line.

The Boundary County Community Kitchen is seeking a volunteer interested in traveling to Coeur d’Alene once a month to pick up commodities for the local food bank. LATAH COUNTY Moscow

An application for extended area service toll-free calling between Troy and Moscow has been withdrawn by TDS Telecom/Troy Telephone Co. because of the high cost of providing the service, according to the Idaho Public Utilities Commission. EAS had previously been denied between the two communities in 1987 and 1992 after the Commission determined the costs of providing the service too excessive for most customers despite a significant community of interest between Troy and Moscow. Petitions for reconsideration of the Commission’s order allowing TDS to withdraw its application will be accepted until April 13.

SHOSHONE COUNTY Wallace

Beginning Thursday, Wallace will have an animal control officer. Dogs running at large will be taken to the pound. A $15 fine and a pound fee must be paid by the owner before a dog will be released. Dogs must be licensed. Fees for spayed or neutered animals is $6; fees for non spayed/neutered is $10. Proof of rabies shots is also required. For information, call the Wallace city clerk’s office.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY Newport

The Newport city limits were just stretched. At a recent City Council meeting, property adjacent to Lazy Acres was annexed into the city. Gary Chantry, who owns a new mobile home park in that area, requested the inclusion. The council agreed to annex the property after a lengthy discussion on soil erosion and other safety issues.

SPOKANE COUNTY Elk

Elk’s Andrew R. Clary was recently inducted into Alpha Sigma Nu, a national honor society of Jesuit colleges and universities. A Gonzaga University senior, Clary was chosen for his loyalty and service and for being in the top 4 percent of his class.

WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman

A free “Family Emergency Preparedness Plan,” with a special insert on the Year 2000 transition, is now available at several Pullman locations.

Prepared by the Emergency Management Division of the Washington Military Department, the plan is available at City Hall, the police station, Neill Public Library and the Pullman Chamber of Commerce.

Several city officials have participated in training sessions on the Y2K problem and a city-wide disaster plan is under revision and should be completed by June 1, according to Pullman Police Chief Ted Weatherly. The booklets now available include an update on Pullman’s preparation and comments from Avista Utilities. LINCOLN COUNTY Libby

Deputy Roby Bowe has been promoted to sergeant for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Bowe has been a full-time deputy since February 1990. As sergeant, he assumes some additional responsibilities and serves as liaison between the sheriff’s office administration and the uniformed deputies. Bowe is a 1985 graduate of Libby High School.
