Pf Sweeps Lakeland Relays

Post Falls’ boys and girls captured team titles at Friday’s Lakeland Relays at Rathdrum, which drew eight track and field teams from North Idaho.

PF’s boys scored 106 points, while Sandpoint scored 85 and Lakeland 83. The Trojans girls, with 104 points, were 11 better than Lakeland.

The Trojans won the 400-, 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter boys relays and were second place in five events. Boys meet records were set by Lakeland’s triple jump team and Sandpoint’s pole vaulters.

PF’s girls won the long jump, distance medley, sprint medley relay, 800 relay and 3,200 relay. Lake City’s girls set a meet record in the pole vault.

Baseball

Jake Krummel was 8 for 9 for the day, with six runs, five RBIs and two homers, as Lakeside (8-7, 7-4) swept visiting Pullman 14-8, 12-5 to tie for third place in the Great Northern League.

Josh Taylor had five RBIs and three runs in the opener for Lakeside, and Pat Day hit a two-run homer in the second game. Dusty Druffel of the Greyhounds (8-8, 7-4) was 4 for 8 for the day, with a double and two-run homer in the opener.

Also in the GNL, Brandon Morris had three hits in each game and Daniel Loosier added four RBIs in the opener, helping Riverside (8-9, 6-5) to a 14-4, 20-2 sweep over visiting Newport (1-16, 1-10).

Riverside’s Seth Schurtz tripled in the opener, and doubled and hit a two-run homer in the second. Randy Artz and Chase Melendez of the Grizzlies had three hits apiece on the day.

Softball

Jessica Murray struck out nine and had two hits, including a double, and visiting Shadle Park (13-3, 11-3) defeated Central Valley 5-1 to remain tied for second place in the GSL.

Shadle scored two in the sixth, when the Bears (10-6, 9-5) had three errors. CV’s Jennifer Schmitt was 3 for 4.

Also in the GSL, Jamie Merrill struck out nine, and she and Courtney Davis finished 4 for 5 in Rogers’ 11-0 win at Mt. Spokane (4-11, 4-10).

Merrill and Davis combined for five RBIs for the Pirates, who won their fifth consecutive game to stay in a second-place tie. Terah Summers was 3 for 3 for the Wildcats, who have scored one run in their last six games.

Candice Powers singled in the go-ahead run in the fifth, and Kayla Adams (3-0) had a bases-loaded strikeout in the seventh to lift Lewis and Clark (11-5, 10-4) to a 3-2 win over North Central (0-14, 0-14) at Hart Field.

Corina Ebat tripled and scored on Ashley Andrews’ double in LC’s fourth. The Tigers moved up to fourth place. NC’s Alice Stearns had two hits.

Ashley Hagen, Amy Kuhta, Sara Toguchi and Anna Vagstad had two hits apiece in Mead’s 10-1 win at Gonzaga Prep (4-12, 4-10).

Nicole Naslund and Sara Rhodes doubled for the Panthers (7-9, 6-8). The Bullpups’ Molly Bayne also doubled.

Megan Mackey had the game-winning single in the first game and added three hits and two RBIs in the second, and East Valley (16-2, 7-0) swept visiting Cheney 5-4, 11-1 to clinch at least a tie of the Frontier League title.

EV’s Rebecca Triplett (10-1) struck out three and walked none in the opener. Katie Hirst (6-1) struck out four and had three RBIs in the second game. Tanya Birchler of Cheney (6-9, 2-5) had a two-run double in the opener.

EV completes its league season Thursday at West Valley (3-2), the lone team that could tie the Knights. WV has three other league games to play.

Brooke Brown (5-2) struck out 11 and pitched a one-hitter, and Colville (9-5, 6-0) defeated visiting Kettle Falls 11-1 in a meeting of the Great Northern League’s top two teams.

Ellen Shaw’s bases-loaded triple highlighted Colville’s four-run fourth. The Bulldogs dropped to 10-4, 5-2, behind Pullman (5-1) and Freeman (4-1) in the league.

Also in the GNL, Thera Hattenburg had four strikeouts and two of Riverside’s four hits during a 10-1 win at Chewelah (3-8, 2-4). The Rams are 5-6, 2-4.

Boys soccer

Jason Remington totaled two goals and one assist in the first half, and Riverside (11-1 Great Northern League) defeated visiting Colville 7-0 to wrap up its first league title.

The District 7 2A playoffs begin May 8 at Riverside. No. 2 Pullman opens against No. 3 Deer Park or Medical Lake. The top-seeded Rams open against No. 4 DP or ML. Medical Lake (6-5) completes the league season today at home against Pullman (9-2).

Riverside goalkeeper Jeremy Nelson, absent for one month , will return for the playoffs.

Also in the GNL, Jared Stark scored on a penalty kick and DP (6-6) defeated visiting Lakeside 2-1 to clinch a playoff berth.

DP entered the day needing a win to avoid tying with Chewelah (5-7) for fourth place. Lakeside finished 0-12.

Golf

Cheney’s Erica Leslie birdied the first playoff hole to win medalist honors at the Big East Invitational at Wandermere Golf Course.

Leslie, Central Valley’s Michelle Grafos and Ferris’ Lani Elston all finished at 5-over-par 76. West Valley’s Amy Wieber was another stroke back.

Ferris topped the 22-team field with a 244, 27 strokes better than Rogers.
