Cda’S Hoorelbeke No-Hits Sandpoint

Blake Hoorelbeke threw a five-inning no-hitter Tuesday, and Coeur d’Alene completed its Inland Empire League softball season with a 10-0 win at Sandpoint.

CdA (19-4, 13-2) is percentage points behind Lake City (12-1) in the title race. LC completes its IEL season Thursday with a doubleheader at Post Falls (3-10).

The A-1 Region I tournament begins Monday. Both Coeur d’Alene schools will have opening-round byes.

Hoorelbeke (14-3) struck out 12 and walked two. Cassandra Vig led the Vikings’ 14-hit attack with three hits, including a double, and scored three times.

Sandpoint is 4-16, 2-12.

Kira Bliss threw a five-hitter and singled in the winning run in the seventh, leading Cheney (7-9) to a 3-2 non-league win over visiting Lake City (16-5).

Bliss’ winning hit, off Bobbi Darretta, came with nobody out. Cheney’s Candice Birchell was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Kelly O’Hara had two hits for Lake City.

Baseball

Birch Rose pitched a four-hitter in Bonners Ferry’s 13-1 at Timberlake that completed the Intermountain League season.

Colin Gause singled, doubled and tripled for Bonners Ferry (14-6, 8-4), which finished in second place. Timberlake (11-7, 5-7) tied St. Maries for third place, but St. Maries (11-10 overall) earned the No. 3 seed into the A-2 District I tournament because it won the season series.

District opens Thursday with No. 5 Priest River (9-9) at No. 4 Timberlake in a loser-out game. Games continue Saturday at league champion Lakeland (17-6).

Sean Moglia’s two-run triple highlighted a five-run sixth, and Lake City (9-13) rallied for a 9-5, non-league win over visiting Cheney (7-10).

The game was called after six because of bad weather.

Cheney led 5-4 when Kory Wilson started the Timberwolves’ rally with a double. Wilson scored the tying run on an error.

In another non-leaguer, Lucas Blaine struck out 11 in the opener and had nine RBIs for the day, leading Priest River to a 17-0, 6-0 sweep over visiting Nelson, British Columbia.

Blaine pitched a five-inning one-hitter and homered in both games. The Spartans’ Caleb Troumbley pitched a three-hitter in the second game.
