Panhandle Schools Get Excellence Awards

The Idaho Education Association has awarded several Excellence in Education Awards to schools in Coeur d’Alene and Post Falls.

This is the fourth year of the program, created to honor schools that use creative ways to improve education.

Ponderosa Elementary School in Post Falls is the only school in the state to receive the award all four years. The school has been recognized in part for piloting several new programs for the district, Principal Bob Sloyka said. Those include character education, life skills curriculum and programs to mainstream students with behavioral problems, Sloyka said.

This years’ other recipients are: Post Falls Middle School, Winton Elementary, Hayden Lake Elementary, Borah Elementary, Fernan Elementary and Ramsey Elementary.

In all, 43 schools around the state will be presented IEA awards.
