Documents Available On ‘96 Chlorine Spill

Two draft documents relating to health effects from a huge chlorine spill near Alberton, Mont., are available to the public for review and comment.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry is gauging the health effects of an April 1996 Montana Rail Link derailment that released a cloud of chlorine. One document is a draft public health needs assessment.

Comments are due May 24 to Dr. Cynthia Lewis-Younger, Rocky Mountain center for Occupational and Environmental Health, Bldg. 512, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT 84112.

The other document is a draft version of health evaluation protocols for an ongoing health evaluation. Comments are due May 30 to Wayne Marchwick, Mineral County Environmental Health and Planning Office, P.O. Box 396, 300 River Street, Superior, MT 59872.
