WSU Players Charged
Whitman County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Ron Shirley filed first-degree theft and residential burglary charges Wednesday against Washington State football players Kevin Brown, Ramin White and Jason White.
After reviewing the police report and evidence, Shirley said it was a “straightforward case” but refused to comment further on the evidence or the case he will present.
The WSU players were apprehended by Pullman police on Sunday morning at 2:10 a.m. after witnesses saw them breaking into an apartment at Campus Commons North, police said. Police arrested Brown and Ramin White a block from the alleged incident.
Jason White was arrested in his apartment. Police recovered $1,900 worth of electronic equipment.
The three accused players will appear in Whitman County Court Friday and be apprised of the charges filed against them. A court date will be scheduled at that time.
If convicted, the players face from six to 12 months in jail. Washington State coach Mike Price and athletic director Rick Dickson are still not commenting on the incident. But Price did inform WSU spokesman Rod Commons that LeJuan Gibbons, who pled not guilty to DWI charges three weeks ago, has been suspended from the team.
Following arraignment, the charges were dropped.
Price did not say how long Gibbons would be suspended.
In addition, Leaford Hackett was not suspended for his actions in a battery case with a mall security guard in February because charges were never filed against him.
