Lakeside High School has been awarded a $2,500 grant to purchase equipment and instructional material for vocational education programs. The funds will be used to buy technology-related equipment to enhance the elective business, computer and career exploration program.
BONNER COUNTY Sagle
An unattended campfire was to blame for a fire that burned five acres on U.S. Forest Service land adjacent to the old Talache Landing Sunday. The fire was reported about 9 a.m. Crews from the Idaho Department of Lands, the Forest Service, the Sagle Volunteer Fire Department and Bonner County Sheriff’s Office marine deputies responded to the fire.

LATAH COUNTY Moscow
A public brainstorming and organizational meeting for the new arts center to be in the 1912 Moscow High School will be today at 4:30 p.m. in the city council chambers of city hall. An arts center, science center, senior center and other community spaces are being planned for the building, recently purchased by the city. Partial funding has been secured for the remaining portion of the Milo Creek Permanent Restoration project. The $277,000 was located through various sources by Chuck Moss, who is working with the Division of Environmental Quality. The money is needed to finish the project from the Washington School structure to the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY Metaline Falls
The town council has outlawed most wheels on downtown sidewalks. Bikes, roller-skates, rollerblades, skateboards are prohibited on both sides of Fifth Avenue between Commercial and Washington streets. Merchants say pedestrians have little chance to see oncoming bikers as they step from local businesses. Strollers and tricycles are still legal.
SPOKANE COUNTY Cheney
The Students in Free Enterprise team at Eastern Washington University ranked in the top 48 teams worldwide out of 600 teams at an international competition this month in Kansas City, Mo. The EWU group formed two years ago and with only 24 members, competed against more established university programs. Some EWU team members were offered jobs by company representatives who served as judges.
