Shadow’S Ching Back, In Top Form
Brian Ching scored a pair of second-half goals, despite 40-mph winds, to rally the Spokane Shadow to a 2-1 victory over the Yakima Reds in a United Soccer League match Saturday in Yakima.
Octavio Dovalle staked Yakima (0-2) to a 1-0 lead with a goal 6 minutes into the second half.
Ching pulled the Shadow (2-0) even in the 68th minute. Chad Brown’s corner kick found Stuart Saunders on the far back post. Saunders flipped a quick pass to Ching who booted the ball past Yakima goalkeeper Derek Collins.
Ching scored the game-winning goal with just 5 minutes remaining. Brown and Chris Hollingshead played give-and-go at the top of the Yakima box. Brown passed to Hollingshead who sent a crossing pass to Ching at the right side of the net. Ching outjumped Reds defender Jeff Perry and directed a header into the net.
It was Ching’s first action after missing the first five games with a hamstring injury.
