Donna Jackson Spokane
Service for Donna W. Jackson, 73, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Macy and Son in McMinnville, Wash. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville.
Mrs. Jackson, who was born in Portland, died Wednesday.
She graduated from Walla Walla High School and worked as a general clerk in the hospital at the naval shipyards in Bremerton.
She married Dave Jackson in 1949.
In 1954 they moved to The Dalles, Ore., where she worked for the Archway Cookie Co. They lived in Pomeroy, Wash. from 1961 until they moved to St. Maries in 1967.
Her husband died in 1990.
Mrs. Jackson moved to McMinnville in 1996 and recently moved to Spokane.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McMinnville and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in St. Maries. She was a past president of the Women’s Club, Daughters of the Nile, Nydia Temple 4 and Elks Lodge 1283.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Jackson of Spokane and Dennis Jackson of Nampa, Idaho; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Association or the American Diabetes Association.
Mary Schafer Spokane
Funeral Mass for Mary Schafer, 68, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime resident, Mrs. Schafer died Friday.
She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and from the Sacred Heart School of Nursing.
In 1969 she began a 25-year career as a registered nurse at the Valley Hospital. She also became a nursing supervisor and an administrative supervisor. She retired in 1994.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Harold; two sons, Dave and Joe Schafer, both of Spokane; three daughters, Marie Schafer of Spokane, Glenda Higgins of Newman Lake and Tammy Miller of Bothell, Wash.; and five grandchildren.
Vera (Bryant) Werner Orofino, Idaho
Memorial service for Vera (Bryant) Werner, a longtime Orofino area resident, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Hills Chapel in Orofino.
Mrs. Werner, 89, died Friday. She was born near Orofino.
She worked at the soda fountain at Owl Drug in Orofino during high school, graduating from Orofino High School in 1927.
Mrs. Werner went on to graduate from the University of Idaho in 1931, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and Mortar Board.
After her graduation she moved to southern Idaho to teach commercial courses in typing and shorthand at Burley (Idaho) High School.
She married Robert Werner in 1936 and they moved to Twin Falls, where they lived for six years.
In 1942 Mrs. Werner and her husband purchased the Clearwater Tribune, which they owned and operated until their retirement in 1969.
Mrs. Werner was a founding member of the Clearwater Hospital Auxiliary and the Orofino Golf Club. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women, the Methodist Church and was a 57-year member of the Philanthropic Educational Organization.
Her husband died in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda of San Francisco; a son, John of Scarsdale, N.Y.; two sisters, Maxine Musiel of Orofino and Gladys Doll of Snohomish, Wash.; and one grandson.

Tekla Sanchez St. Maries
Mass of Christian Burial for Tekla Sanchez, 70, will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in St. Maries. Burial will take place at a later date in California. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sanchez, who was born in California, died Wednesday.
She grew up in Oakland and married Robert Mobley in 1945. They divorced in 1948.
She married Charles Stewart in 1949 and lived in San Diego. She was a homemaker. Charles died in 1974.
She married Joe Sanchez in 1975 and he died in 1993.
Mrs. Sanchez moved to St. Maries in 1994, and was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church and the St. Maries Historical Society.
Survivors include three sons, James Stewart of Kansas City, Mo., Rex Stewart of New Hampshire and Randy Stewart of Tennessee; three daughters, Joann Churchill and Gladys Batchelder, both of St. Maries, and Elaina Farnett of Tennessee; two brothers, Paul and Peter Smalley, both of Utah; two sisters, Lynne Lopez of Spokane and Paula Smalley of Alaska; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
David Catling Spokane
Memorial service for David G. Catling, 72, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Berean Bible Church. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 51-year Spokane resident, Mr. Catling died Oct. 24. He was born in Rosalia, Wash.
He served in the Army during World War II, and worked as a storeroom clerk at Kaiser Aluminum-Trentwood for 41 years.
He was a member of the Berean Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Caroline; two sons, John Catling of Spokane and Richard Catling of San Angelo, Texas; a daughter, Ruth of Spokane; a brother, Walter Catling of Spokane; three grandchildren and two stepgranddaughters.

Morlin Robinson Coeur d’Alene
Memorial service for Morlin C. Robinson, 78, will be held today at 1 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Robinson, who was born in Armour, S.D., died Friday.
He married Rosemary Reichert in 1939 and had served as a staff sergeant with the Army during World War II.
After the war he lived in California and owned an auto repair shop, retiring in 1983.
Mr. Robinson moved to Coeur d’Alene 15 years ago from Southern California.
He was a member of St. Pius Roman Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years; three daughters, Sharon Fry of California, and Nancy DiGiammarco and Jennifer Ross, both of Hayden Lake, Idaho; two brothers, Royce and Dean Robinson, both of California; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William Welch Jr. Elizabeth Welch Sumner, Wash.
Joint memorial service for William McNair Welch Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth, will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. A reception will follow at Indian Canyon Golf Couse clubhouse. American Memorial in Tacoma is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Welch died Sept. 28. He was 85.
He was a professional golfer at the Indian Canyon Golf Course for 18 years. He returned in 1984 at the age of 70.
Mrs. Welch, who was born in Oil City, Pa., died Oct. 31, 1998. She was 81.
She worked as the children’s services coordinator for the Spokane County Library from 1966 to 1981. She also taught children’s literature at Eastern Washington University.
They are survived by a daughter, Ann Howard of Sumner; and a granddaughter.

Dwyla Unruh Coeur d’Alene
Service for Dwyla H. Unruh, 75, will be today at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Unruh, who was born in Rathdrum, Idaho, died Friday.
She was a lifetime resident of the Rathdrum and Coeur d’Alene areas.
She married Don Unruh in 1950 and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Walnut Avenue Gospel Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Dion Unruh, and a daughter, D. Faith Unruh, both of Coeur d’Alene; two brothers, Willard Feely of Ohio and Arnold Feely of Pasco; and two grandchildren.
Hazel Davenport Springdale, Wash.
Service for Hazel Irene Davenport, 87, was held Saturday at the Hilltop Church of God in Deer Park. Burial was held at the Springdale (Wash.) Community Cemetery.
Mrs. Davenport, who was born in Portland, died Oct. 18.
She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in art from Central Washington University in Ellensburg.
Mrs. Davenport was an art teacher at Franklin Pierce High School in Tacoma and later was the director of the art program for the Franklin Pierce School District. She retired in 1972.
She moved to Springdale in 1989.
Her husband, Harmon Davenport, died in 1991.
Mrs. Davenport was a member of Hilltop Church of God in Deer Park, Gideon Society, Women’s Temperance Christian Union and the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society.
Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Schmalle of Springdale and Charlotte Vernon of San Diego; a brother, Benjamin Jarret, and sister, Evelyn Harriman, both of Portland; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
