Robert Fiessinger Finishes Basic Training
Army PV2 Robert D. Fiessinger, son of Kathie Fiessinger of Coeur d’Alene and grandson of James and Lois Franz of Hayden Lake, Idaho, has graduated from basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.
Fiessinger, a 1999 Coeur d’Alene High School graduate, enlisted for six years under the Delayed Entry Program in helicopter maintenance and repairman and hopes to continue on to flight school.
Amos Frisbie, a Junior ROTC Cadet Captain at Kellogg High School, recently received the Junior ROTC medal from the Lt. George Farragut Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Award recipients must be graduating seniors who are in the top 25 percent of their class in all subjects, demonstrate leadership qualities of good character and dependability, and adhere to military discipline.
Frisbie is the son of George and Camilla Frisbie of Kellogg.
Cadet Darren M. Zychek, son of Robert and Lucy Zychek of Post Falls, has received the Superintendent’s Individual Gold Wreath Award at the U.S. Military Academy.
The award recognizes cadets who have excelled academically, physically and militarily during the year.
Zychek, a 1996 graduate of Lakeland High School, is studying business management and systems engineering and plans to graduate from West Point in 2001 and will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army.
Sister Catherine Manderfeld, retired director of the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude’s Monastery in Cottonwood, Idaho, and Harry F. Magnuson, a longtime Wallace resident and presdent of H.F. Magnuson Co., recently received the 1999 Esto Perpetua Award from the Idaho State Historical Society.
Manderfeld was honored for her dedication to the development of the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude’s.
Magnuson was noted for spearheading the foundation of the Idaho Heritage Trust and for his involvement in the preservation of numerous Silver Valley historic buildings.
The awards, named after the Idaho state motto, recognize professional accomplishments, public service, volunteerism, and philanthropy related to preserving Idaho’s history.
Other local nominees included Walt Almquist, Murray, Idaho; Joe Grismer, Wallace; Susan Jacklin, Post Falls; Marvin Lake, Kellogg; and Robert Singletary, Coeur d’Alene.
Mary Duff, nurse practitioner with the Idaho State Board of Nursing and The Ironwood Family Practice in Coeur d’Alene, has been selected to receive the 1999 American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) State Award for Excellence.
Duff, who received a master of science in administrative nursing with a clinical specialization in oncology in 1985 from the University of Wisconsin, is being honored for excellence of care and outstanding contribution in practice.
