Sister Lucy Gain, S.P. Spokane
Funeral Mass for Sister Lucy Gain, 94, will be at 9:30 a.m. today at Mount St. Joseph. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Gain, who was born in Lincoln, Neb., died Thursday.
She graduated from Prince Rupert High School in British Columbia and later graduated from commercial school at St. Joseph Academy.
Sister Gain worked at the American Consulate in Canada.
Her family later moved to Seattle where she graduated from Wilson Business College. She worked for the Pacific Steamship Co. and later at Shell Oil. She was later transferred to Spokane.
Sister Gain entered the Sisters of Providence in Seattle in 1941. She professed her first vows in 1942 and her final vows in 1946.
She worked as a bookkeeper and treasurer at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Columbus Hospital in Great Falls, Mont., Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, St. Thomas More Hospital in Great Falls, Mont., for provincial administration in Spokane and in the Adult Education Office for the Diocese of Spokane. She retired in 1982 and later moved to Mount St. Joseph.
Sister Gain is survived by her sister, Mary Fowler of Kirkland, Wash.

Elizabeth Henzl, S.N.J.M. Spokane
Funeral Mass for Sister Elizabeth Mary Henzl, 82, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Convent of the Holy Names. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Henzel, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.
She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Holy Names College. She also received a master’s degree in education from the University of Oregon and in religious education from Gonzaga University. She received a doctorate in education from Indiana University.
Sister Henzl taught in elementary and secondary schools as well as at the university level in Washington and Oregon, from 1938 to 1982.
She moved to Spokane in 1979 and worked as a religious educator in Spokane parishes. Sister Henzl later retired to the prayer apostolate at the Convent of the Holy Names.
In 1992 she began living at the Convent of the Holy Names.
There are no surviving family members.
Peter Eng Colfax, Wash.
Service for Peter Pan Eng, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Eng, who was born in China, died Tuesday.
He came to the United States at the age of 14 and lived with his father in Spokane.
Mr. Eng served in the Army during World War II. He served with the 14th Air Service Group of the 55th Air Service Squadron. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1946.
In 1948 he returned to China and married Fung Kuen in Hong Kong.
They moved back to Spokane and later to Pullman, where he worked in an Asian restaurant.
In 1957 Mr. Eng started the Colfax Coffee Shop. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of the Washington Junior Miss Association.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Darlene Lee and Debbie Largent, both of Colfax; three sons, Terry Eng of Colfax, Tim Eng of Redmond, Wash., and Tony Eng of Tigard, Ore.; and 10 grandchildren.

Gladene (Perry) Bundy Spokane
Service for Gladene (Perry) Bundy, 86, was Monday at Sunset Mausoleum at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Bundy died Thursday. She was born in Spokane.
She was a 57-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.
Her husband, Fred, died in 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorene Harter of Spokane and Sheree Mitchell of Houston; two sisters, Glennavon Medley of Spokane and Eycle Burchett of Woodinville, Wash.; seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of Manito.
Donald Skipworth Spokane
Memorial service for Donald N. Skipworth, 83, will be at 11 a.m. today at Spokane Valley United Methodist Church. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Skipworth, who was born in Omaha, Neb., died Friday. He was a 73-year Spokane resident.
He worked as a production superintendent at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Melba; two sons, Gary Skipworth of Phoenix and Steven Skipworth; a daughter, Sandra White of Manzanita Beach, Ore.; three sisters, Mildred Wood, Doris Rowland and Jennie Fallquist, all of Spokane; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Melody Cook Carter Knoke Genesee, Idaho
Service for Melody Michelle Cook, 25, and her son, Carter Von Yance Knoke, 10 months, will be at 1 p.m. today at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho. Burial will follow at the Genesee City Cemetery.
Miss Cook, who was born in California, died Wednesday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident south of Moscow on Highway 95.
She grew up in California and Georgia and moved to Kendrick, Idaho, in 1983. She attended school in Kendrick before moving to Moscow in 1989, where she finished school.
Miss Cook moved to Genesee several years ago and had worked as a certified nurses aide in the health care field, most recently as a home health caregiver.
Carter, who was born in Moscow, died Friday from injuries suffered in the same accident.
Miss Cook’s survivors include her daughter, Courtney Cook of Genesee; her father, Von Cook of Texas; her mother, Cheri Alexander of California; her fiance, Laef Knoke of Genesee; two brothers, Lance and Ryan Cook, both of Texas; and grandmothers, Marcy Cook of Georgia and Betty Blythe of California.
Carter’s survivors include his father, Laef Knoke of Genesee; two sisters, Courtney Cook and Toree Knoke, both of Genesee; his grandparents, Von Cook of Texas, Cheri Alexander of California, Fredrick Knoke of Arizona and Marlyn Heinchrich of Fairfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Albert Allen Spokane
Vigil service for Albert Edward Allen, 76, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Allen, who was born in Devitte, Ore., died Saturday.
He married Vera Hess in 1944, and they moved to Spokane in 1947.
Mr. Allen worked for Safeway until he went into the service station business. He owned Allen’s Flying A and Allen’s Service on Northwest Boulevard.
He was a member of Mary Queen Catholic Parish, and served with the Holy Names and St. Vincent DePaul societies. He also was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Allen was a volunteer with Catholic Charities.
Survivors include his wife; six daughters, Margo Witters, Jackie Steger, Debbie Moore, Tamie Boy, Valerie Allen and Pam Kinder; a sister, Alene Atchley of Devils Lake, N.D.; three brothers, Ben Allen of Spokane, Larry Allen of Hawaii and Eric Justesen of Belgrade, Mont.; and 18 grandchildren.

Louise Wallace Spokane
Visitation for Louise Marie Wallace, 75, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Memorial Park.
A 10-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Wallace died Friday. She was born in Spokane.
She worked as a retail sales clerk.
Survivors include her husband, Charles; three daughters, Jackie Johnson of Oakland, Calif., Bobbi Petersen of Richmond, Calif., and Linda DiThomas of Columbus, Ohio; a son, Charles Wallace Jr. of Eureka, Calif.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Donald Olson Spokane
Memorial service for Donald L. Olson, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Olson, who was born in St. Maries, died Oct. 24. He was a 35-year Spokane resident.
He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1943.
Mr. Olson entered the Army in 1943 and served during World War II. After being discharged he became a member of the Idaho National Guard and served during the Korean War. He served for 20 years in the Army Reserve Program, retiring as lieutenant colonel.
Mr. Olson received two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge.
He graduated in 1955 from the University of Idaho with a degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Olson worked as the senior vice president of engineering for Washington Water Power. He retired after 40 years.
He was a member of the Millwood Presbyterian Church, the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Lodge. Mr. Olson served as a trustee on the board of Spokane Community College.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Dorothea; two daughters, Patti Headlee of Medical Lake and Sharon Remington of Edmonds, Wash.; a brother, Roland Olson of Coeur d’Alene; and five grandchildren.

Luverne `Lee’ Franklin Spokane
Memorial service for Luverne “Lee” Franklin, 77, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.
Mrs. Franklin, who died Saturday, was born in Havre, Mont.
She was a 60-year Spokane resident and worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 41 years.
She was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers.
Her husband, David Franklin, died in 1991.
Survivors include a son, Michael Franklin of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, Doris Lyman of Spokane and Alice Hudson of Dickinson, N.D.; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Teresa Kannally Spokane
Funeral Mass for Teresa F. Kannally, 93, was Monday at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Mrs. Kannally, who was born in Hurricane, Maine, died Thursday.
In Maine, she graduated from Portland High School and Gorham Normal School. She taught elementary school in Maine and Massachusetts.
In 1974 She moved to Spokane. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Slater of Spokane; a son, Tom Kannally of New Portland, Maine; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Philip Middlebrook Spokane
Service for Philip T. Middlebrook, 27, was Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home. Another service will be today at Hall Brothers Mortuary in Corning, Calif. Burial will be at the Tehama (Calif.) District Cemetery.
A 10-year Spokane resident, Mr. Middlebrook died Thursday. He was born in Glendale, Calif.
He worked as a residential house painter.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, William and Juanita Middlebrook of Spokane; his mother Shirley Baker of Corning; three brothers, Tim Middlebrook of Spokane, Brian Middlebrook of Colorado Springs and Michael Baker of Corning; and five sisters, Mindy Sanches and Gail, Christi and Irene Perozzi, all of Corning, and Karan Brown of Junction City, Ore.
Llewellyn Girsberger Colfax, Wash.
Graveside service for Llewellyn Ole “Lew” Girsberger, 93, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Golden Rod Cemetery in Tekoa, Wash. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Girsberger, who was born in Latah, died Saturday.
He graduated from high school in Latah in 1924.
Mr. Girsberger was a farmer in the Latah and Tekoa areas. He married Viva Crabb in 1929.
He was a member of the Fairfield Grange, Tekoa Kiwanis Club, First Christian Church and the United Church of Tekoa.
His first wife of 57 years preceded him in death.
In 1990 he married Ruth Heaton.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kenneth Girsberger of Tekoa and Hugh Girsberger of Pendleton, Ore.; a daughter, Luella Littleton of Bellevue, Wash.; seven grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Jewel (Hightower) Fink Spokane
Service for Jewel L. (Hightower) Fink, 83, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Palouse.
Mrs. Fink, who died Thursday, was born in Westville, Okla.
In the late 1930s she moved to Kellogg, Idaho. She moved to Oregon in 1939, where she worked as a cashier, a waitress and for a hospital.
She moved to Palouse in the 1950s and married Reuben Fink in 1959. They moved to Soap Lake, Wash., in 1973. They returned to Palouse in 1980 and moved to Spokane in 1993.
Mrs. Fink was a homemaker and a member of the Palouse Grange, Eagles Lodge, Rebekah Lodge and the Help One Another Club.
Her husband died in March.
Survivors include two brothers, Andrew Hightower of Greenacres and Wilson Hightower of Smithville, Okla.; and a sister, Betty Smith of Spokane.

Elsa (Reinhold) Buck Roseburg, Ore.
Service for Elsa “Elsie” Mathilde (Reinhold) Buck, a former Davenport, Wash., resident, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Davenport. Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Davenport. Taylor’s Family Mortuary in Winston, Ore., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Buck, 97, died Wednesday. She was born in Egypt, Wash.
In 1921 she married Frederick Buck in Coeur d’Alene in a double wedding with his sister and fiance.
Mrs. Buck and her husband owned a wheat farm and later started Buck’s Dairy.
She worked as a part-time telephone operator for 15 years.
Mrs. Buck moved to Roseburg in 1995 to be with her daughter.
She was a member of the Sewing Club and Zion Lutheran Church. She also volunteered as chairperson for the Lincoln County Heart Association and the Lincoln County Nursing Home.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Bernadine Kittelson of Roseburg; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
