‘Late Nite Catechism’ Returns

Watch out, here comes Sister again.

Sister is Aubrey Manning, the habit-wearing and habit-forming star of the interactive theater evening, “Late Nite Catechism.” This show, on loan from Seattle, is exactly like going to Catholic catechism class, if catechism class were funny.

This hysterical show comes back to The Met, 901 W. Sprague, on Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

This will be the third time “Late Nite Catechism” has played Spokane. Both other shows sold out early, but there’s good new for procrastinators. Some tickets are still left this time around.

Tickets are $18, $30 and $50, available through all G&B Select-a-Seat outlets, or by calling 325-SEAT or 1-800-325-SEAT.

The show is a benefit for Catholic Charities.

`Scapino!’

The Eastern Washington University Theatre season opens Friday with “Scapino!” a slapstick classic.

The EWU version is based on the Young Vic Company’s modern retelling of Moliere’s “That Rascal Scapin,” which was itself a revision of a commedia dell’arte classic.

The plot follows Scapino and Sylvestro, two servants who are looking after their young masters on a business trip.

The servants must use all their trickery to help their masters convince their fathers to allow them to marry the women they love.

This version will be staged in an arena setting with a boardwalk running through the seating area. Audience participation will be encouraged.

“Scapino!” runs Friday, Saturday and continues Nov. 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 at 8 p.m. There will also be a 10 a.m. matinee on Nov. 17.

Tickets are $5, available at the door. Eastern students with ID and one guest will be admitted free. All shows are at the University Theatre on the Cheney campus.

`Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’

Reading Stage, the Spokane Civic Theatre’s reader’s theater series, presents Tennessee Williams’ classic, “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” on Sunday.

This 1955 classic is about a family which gathers in the old plantation house to celebrate the 65th birthday of Big Daddy. The celebration does not go according to plan.

William C. Marlowe reads the role of Big Daddy, and Carey Chilton Charyk reads the role of Maggie.

All tickets are $5 at the door. Showtime is 7 p.m. Sunday at the Firth Chew Studio Theatre, in the basement of the Spokane Civic Theatre, 1020 N. Howard.
